Thursday, 26 May, 2022. Kilkenny-based software technology group, CluneTech, has been officially recognised as one of Ireland’s Best Workplaces in Tech for the second consecutive year.
The tech industry in Ireland employs over 100,000 people and is the second-largest exporter of computer and IT services in the world. Best Workplaces in Tech highlights organisations in the tech sector who are offering an excellent employee experience by building a great culture, and CluneTech – whose portfolio of companies includes Ireland’s latest tech unicorn, TransferMate – is proud to be one of them!
The accolade was granted after a thorough and independent analysis conducted by Great Place to Work Institute Ireland. The accreditation was introduced in 2021 and the process is based on direct feedback from employees, provided as part of an extensive and anonymous survey about the employee experience.
Earlier this year, CluneTech was listed as the 20th Best Large Workplace in Ireland, as part of the Great Place to Work programme to celebrate organisations that have committed to creating a high-trust organisation. The company has also been recognised as a Best Workplace for Women™, which recognises those organisations that are creating positive and supportive workplaces for women in particular.
Earlier this week the CSO reported a gender gap in the ICT sector in Ireland, with women accounting for only 32% of workers in the overall sector. CluneTech bucks this trend, with women making up more than 46% of employees in Ireland, and 58% of our total workforce worldwide. This puts the company well ahead of the industry average of 33% overall female representation in global technology firms, as predicted for 2022 by Deloitte Global.
“As a group of global software technology companies, this recognition is very important to us. I want to thank our employees, in Ireland and worldwide, who embody our culture and our shared values. Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re proud to be named as one of Ireland’s Best Workplaces in Tech as well as a Best Workplace for Women™. Our aim is to continuously improve our culture and working environment in support of all our employees.”
“At CluneTech, we’re on a journey to provide our people with the best possible employee experience, whatever that looks like for them. Our employees play a pivotal role in shaping our #OneTeam culture and it’s their feedback that drives change within our organisation. With that in mind, we’re absolutely delighted to be recognised as Best Workplace in Tech and this accreditation is a welcome reminder that we’re heading in the right direction!”
“The organisations awarded as Ireland’s Best Workplaces in Tech in 2022 do not believe they are a perfect workplace (there is no such thing) but they are committed to improving their workplace culture to help maximise their talent retention, attract the best talent and create an outstanding employee experience. All of these workplaces have committed to using the Great Place to Work framework to support and improve their workplace culture and also to enhance and grow their employer brand.
Great Place to Work (www.greatplacetowork.ie) is the global authority on high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures. Through assessment tools, consultancy services, and certification programmes, Great Place to Work recognises Best Workplaces™ across the world in a series of national lists. Great Place to Work provides the benchmarks, framework, and expertise needed to create, sustain, and recognise truly outstanding workplace cultures. Tuesday, November 22nd. The Ambassador of Ireland to Bulgaria, Martina Feeney visited CluneTech’s Varna office in Bulgaria on Tuesday, November 22nd, marking her second visit to the company this year, following an earlier visit to the Veliko Tarnovo office. Ambassador Feeney met representatives from across the CluneTech group of companies in Varna, which is the biggest office of the Irish software technology group in Bulgaria.
At the meeting, senior managers from different divisions of CluneTech shared the latest achievements of their businesses with the Ambassador. Our guest was curious to understand how the pandemic changed the workplace and to learn more about our most recent employee benefits and company culture improvements, which has contributed to CluneTech being listed as one of Bulgaria’s top 100 employers. Ambassador Feeney and the CluneTech managers discussed the importance of attracting and retaining the best talent, as well as our long-term CSR partnership with organizations like Karin Dom in Varna.

“I’m really impressed by the incredible teams that I met in both Varna and Veliko Tarnovo’s offices this year. All of the people at CluneTech seem to be really passionate about what they do. I have no doubt that putting people at the center of the business, something that CluneTech is dedicated to doing for its over 21 years of presence in Bulgaria, is essential to being successful. I`m looking forward to continuing our partnership and supporting you.
“We were delighted to host Ambassador Feeney, who was curious to learn more about our businesses, but also about our company culture and the people who work here. Ambassador Feeney is open to supporting us in every possible way and to strengthening the relations between the business and the authorities in the country, as we plan to increase our workforce here.”

During her first working trip in the country after the removal of the Covid restrictions, Ambassador Feeney visited our office in Veliko Tarnovo. There she spoke to Chris Henry, Zhana Zhivkova, Desislava Chervenkova, Desislava Teneva, and Tsvetanka Ivanova, who are all senior managers in the group. Back in June, when they met, our managers told her more about TransferMate entering a massive growth phase and becoming the first Irish tech unicorn represented in Bulgaria, as well as the recruitment plans of other CluneTech companies such as Immedis and Taxback.com who are also recruiting in the country.
CluneTech is the biggest Irish employer in Bulgaria and has been represented in the country for over 21 years. Its office in Varna is the biggest in Bulgaria, employing nearly 800 people in the fields of Finance, Software Development, Customer Service, Marketing, and many more.
About Ambassador Martina Feeney
Ambassador Feeney took up her position as Ambassador of Ireland to Bulgaria in October 2020. The pandemic limited her ability to meet people and host the usual events that are traditional for the Irish embassy in Bulgaria. This year saw the Ambassador’s first visits to both Veliko Tarnovo and Varna since the removal of the Covid-19 restrictions in the country this spring and we were delighted to host her. We look forward to the next visit from the Ambassador to our Bulgarian operations.

At CluneTech, we have an extensive Milestone Recognition Program that rewards employees that choose to build a long and successful career with us. As part of this programme, we love celebrating and sharing the stories of those reaching major milestones with the company.
This month we caught up with Viktoria Kurteva, Front End Developer at Sprintax. She has been on our team for the last 5 years.
My favorite thing about working in CluneTech is the team I work with. We’ve built a strong and open way of communicating, with a lot of mutual understanding and trust. Everyone is approachable, open to questions, and always willing to help when needed. Beyond the professional environment, I’ve also had the chance to build meaningful connections and friendships that extend outside of work, which makes the experience even more valuable.
Having been with CluneTech for five years, my biggest achievement has been my professional growth within the company. I joined shortly after graduating, and through continuous learning and commitment, I was able to demonstrate my potential and take on increasing responsibility. This journey eventually led to the opportunity to step into a Team Lead role, which I see as both a personal milestone and a reflection of the trust and support I’ve received along the way.
The biggest change I’ve witnessed is the growth and evolution of the team I’m part of. When I joined, the team consisted of just three people, and today it has grown to twelve. Along with this growth came new dynamics, stronger collaboration, and a more structured way of working together. It’s been interesting to see how the team has evolved while maintaining open communication and a supportive environment.
One of the greatest challenges I’ve faced has been growing both professionally and personally. From the very beginning, it required stepping outside my comfort zone to communicate with more experienced colleagues, ask questions, and actively learn.
Over time, I needed to take on more responsibility and make decisions on my own, which was initially intimidating. Today, many of the things that once felt challenging are now part of my everyday work.
I’ve really enjoyed projects where I could both contribute technically and support the team’s growth. Working on challenging front-end tasks while also helping colleagues solve problems, share knowledge, and improve collaboration has been very rewarding. I particularly value opportunities where I can learn new approaches and see how our work positively impacts the product and the team.
My advice would be not to be afraid to reach out to your colleagues and communicate openly in the workflow. Ask questions whenever you have them, seek feedback, and don’t hesitate to share your ideas or suggestions. Make the most of your time, stay curious, and take every opportunity to learn as much as you can from those around you.

Moving into the Financial Crime Subject Matter Expert role has been a big highlight for me. It’s been really rewarding to grow in this area and work on some challenging investigations.

Definitely the people I work with. There’s so much experience and knowledge in the team, and everyone is so open to sharing what they know.

I’ve enjoyed the investigations where I could really dig into unusual activity and spot patterns. It’s challenging work, but it’s really satisfying.

This month we caught up with CluneTech's Head of Design, Elena Stefanova who has been on our team for the last 15 years.
What is your favorite thing about working in CluneTech?
The opportunity to work in an international environment and meet people from different cultures.
What has been your biggest achievement or highlight since joining CluneTech?
One life-changing achievement was the opportunity to upskill from a graphic designer to a motion designer, using After Effects. It had been a childhood dream of mine to create motion graphics and animations. However, my biggest overall achievement within the company has been progressing through every career stage—from junior designer to Head of Design.
What is the biggest change that you have witnessed in your time here?
Relocating the office from Tsar Simeon to Bacho Kiro and changing the company name to CluneTech.
What is the greatest challenge that you have faced in your time here and how did you overcome it?
Without a doubt, it was the renovation of the new Lounge and Meeting Space in the basement (formerly the Martini Bar)—from the interior design concept to full realization. It required countless hours of research into commercial space requirements, including layout planning, lighting, safety, and dimension regulations, along with completing a six-month Interior Design course at SoftUni. It was a huge commitment for everyone involved, sometimes exceeding 10 hours of work per day, seven days a week.
What has been your favorite project to work on?
Creating videos with Zory for company parties— the videos on the Brick Port walls in recent years and the CluneTech event videos from previous years.
Do you have advice for someone who is just starting their career in CluneTech?
The company offers great opportunities for career growth and job security—be wise and make the most of them.

In our new "What's it Like?" series, we're going to be chatting to the amazing people of CluneTech to get a better understanding of what their roles entail.
This week, we caught up with Anna Fitzpatrick who works as a Sales Executive for Sprintax.
Sprintax is a US non-resident tax prep solution for international students, scholars & working professionals. Check out our interview with Anna below!
As you’ll see from my ‘typical workday’, a Sales Executive at Sprintax is involved in a wide range of different things. Firstly from the sales side, I focus on profiling leads and reaching out to those leads with the hope of securing meetings. The next stage of the sales cycle is to present our products to prospective partners. Everything leads to the final stage which is closing the deal and welcoming the partner on board. Once the deal closes, then it’s all about account management, nurturing relationships with our partners and providing the highest level of customer service to our partners.
It’s also not just sales! We also have the tax webinar and education side of things where we present nonresident tax information to nonresidents, schools and institutions across the US and worldwide. As a sales executive, I would also work on various presentations and slide decks for our sessions, conferences and events. There is not only one string to our bow, you never know what you might end up working on one day to the next. Safe to say, a day in the life of a Sales Executive is never boring!
There are a lot of skills/qualities that would be important for a sales executive such as good communication, efficient time management and organization, attention to detail, ability to multitask and patience. It is also important to have commercial focus alongside a strong customer focus - the list goes on! We also focus on nurturing the numbers at Sprintax. If we have schools that say no or they don’t want to move forward at this time, we keep them in the loop with any useful resources, tax information or Sprintax updates that they might be interested in and this technique overtime generally results in the schools coming back to us down the line and ultimately winning back business. Perseverance is key!
A couple of things thatI was drawn to on the sales side is the fast pace nature of sales, working alongside a team towards a common goal and the excitement of closing deals. On the Sprintax sales side, I was also drawn to how the sales executive could look at handling the entire sales process, supported by the rest of the team, from profiling leads, reaching out, securing a meeting, presenting our products on sales calls, closing the deal and then acting as an account manager for the partner. It make the sales process very rewarding!
Everyday is generally different which is one of the best parts about this job. I’ll usually go to visit my horse either before or after work, a nice way to start or end the day!
In the morning, I will generally catch up on emails that came through on US time overnight, scheduling replies to go out in US time. I might also spend sometime working on presentations and planning any reach outs or follow ups for the day ahead before the US wakes up.
I’ll usually try to break up the day with a lunchtime walk.
In the afternoon/evening, calls will generally kick off once US time kicks in. I could have a renewal call, a new business call on Tax Prep or Calculus. At the moment we’re in full swing with US tax season, so we’ll generally have open tax webinars taking place for nonresidents as well as exclusive school tax webinars. We also host webinars on the school/institution side for their staff, so we could have something like that taking place on a typical day too! We’ll generally have some internal calls or catch ups too, like our weekly sales catch up call.
First and foremost it has to be the team! We’re lucky to have the team that we do. Everyone is eager to help each other and work together to achieve our common goal. We are a very close knit team and everyone on the team is a pleasure to work with. Secondly, I like how every day is different, as you can see from the ‘typical workday’. It helps to keep you on your toes and keeps things exciting. I enjoy seeing our products evolve, with our team constantly working to add to the product and satisfy our partner needs. It’s great working with people from all across the US and the world. The pandemic had put a halt to all of our in person conferences and events, but its exciting to see all of that returning this year.

Thursday, 29th of January 2026. Today, CluneTech and Cois Nore announced a sponsorship supporting the development of a dedicated therapy wing at Cois Nore’s new Cancer Support Centre in Kilkenny, marking a significant milestone and an important investment in the future of cancer support services for the people of Kilkenny
CluneTech’s sponsorship will fund the refurbishment and fit-out of the therapy wing within the new Cois Nore House.
Every day in County Kilkenny, two families receive a cancer diagnosis, beginning a journey that affects not only the individual but also their families, friends, and communities. Since 2013, Cois Nore has been a safe haven for those living with cancer, providing free, professional, community-based support.
As demand has outgrown its Walkin Street premises, work is now underway on a new purpose-built centre on the Waterford Road. The new Cancer Support Centre is expected to open in March 2026 and will meet the growing needs of people affected by cancer across Kilkenny.
CluneTech’s sponsorship provides vital funding for a modern, purpose-designed therapy space that will support individuals and families throughout their cancer journey. Alongside community generosity, government support, and contributions from other supporters, this investment is helping to bring the new centre closer to completion and enables Cois Nore to continue delivering free, confidential support and professional and voluntary services to people of all ages.
The new Cois Nore House will include dedicated therapy rooms, safe spaces for children and teenagers, group support facilities, and activity areas designed to nurture recovery and dignity. It will provide a welcoming environment where individuals and families can access guidance, compassion, and community at a time when they need it most.
Terry Clune, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of CluneTech, said:
“Kilkenny is home for many of us at CluneTech, and we recognise the importance of standing with our community during difficult times. Cancer touches so many families, and Cois Nore has been a steadfast and compassionate support to the people of Kilkenny for over a decade. We are proud to support the development of the new Cois Nore therapy wing and the vital work that will continue there. We are in it together with Cois Nore and with the people of Kilkenny.”
Bill Cuddihy, Chairperson of Cois Nore, said:
“Cois Nore is very grateful for the support we have received from all sections of the community in Kilkenny. CluneTech’s sponsorship is a powerful statement of solidarity and shows a deep investment in the wellbeing of the community. Together, we are building a centre that protects dignity, nurtures recovery, and empowers hope.”
Mary Dolan, Manager of Cois Nore, said:
“The people of Kilkenny deserve a Cancer Support Centre with the space and resources to deliver a high-quality service. This partnership with CluneTech helps us take an important step towards that vision. Cois Nore has become like a second family for so many, and this new centre will allow us to welcome more people into a space that truly meets their needs.”
This sponsorship forms part of CluneTech Cares, CluneTech’s award-winning corporate social responsibility programme. Founded in 2007, the programme supports charities and causes worldwide and is driven by employee involvement. With a strong local impact in Kilkenny and the communities where CluneTech operates, this sponsorship brings the new centre and expanded cancer support services one step closer to reality.

CluneTech is committed to supporting activities that enhance and serve the communities in which we live and work. As part of this commitment, we added a Volunteer Day to our existing employee benefits in September, 2021 to empower our employees to support the causes closest to them.
We are passionate about giving back to our communities all over the world and the aim of our Volunteer Day is to empower our employees, as individuals, to give back within their local communities.
Our intention is to allow employees to allocate work time to engage in volunteering activities. CluneTech recognises that participating in these sort of activities contributes not only to the development of communities, but also enriches the lives and promotes the well-being of our people.
The addition of our Volunteer Day has already enhanced the reach of our CSR programme, CluneTech Cares, in fact check out this recent example of how TransferMate employees Daniela Tsoneva and Toni Ivanova each used their volunteer day:
Daniela Tsoneva and Toni Ivanova from our TransferMate team recently used their employee volunteer day to help the young ladies from the Gavroche shelter in Varna, Bulgaria, purchase new clothes using money donated by CluneTech earlier this year. Daniela and Toni were on hand to ensure the young ladies got everything they needed and that they also enjoyed a great day out with their new friends from CluneTech.

This year’s Group rebrand faced us with another challenge - renaming #TaxbackGiveBack, our Corporate Social Responsibility Programme. Since the launch of the programme in 2007, one thing always stands out – our caring nature. Naturally, this brought us to the new name CluneTech Cares.
CluneTech Cares is a great representation of what we are – a team of truly caring individuals, giving their best to support and add value, not only to our customers and our team-mates, but also to the communities in which we live and operate!
CluneTech Cares is an award winning programme, picking up the award for ‘Best Use of CSR’ at the 2021 HR Management & Leadership Awards. In 2021, we supported 34 different causes across the world. These included the likes of the Irish Cancer Society, Karin Dom, Race for the Cure, A Very Special Place Inc, MS Ireland, Jack & Jill, E-ducare and many more.

Our intention with this addition is to allow employees to allocate work time to engage in volunteering activities. CluneTech recognises that participating in these sort of activities contributes not only to the development of communities, but also enriches the lives and promotes the well-being of our people.
In March, CluneTech employees from all over of world used their volunteer day to support causes close to their hearts such as donation of computers to local high schools (Yordan Keranov), doing arts and crafts with children with disabilities (Emilia Simeonova and Yoana Grigorova), or making donations to refugees following the Russian invasion in Ukraine (Gocho Gochev, Desislava Chervenkova, Artur Balyan, Kaloyan Keranov and others).
Check out this recent examples of how our employees Ralitsa Mladenova and Galina Kirova used their volunteer day.
On 23rd March, Galina Kirilova and Ralitsa Mladenova from our Veliko Tarnovo team used their Volunteer day to support the regional department of the Bulgarian Red Cross in the city. Both ladies participated in the initiative “Children Help Children” organized by the Ministry of Education together with the Bulgarian Red Cross. This initiative was set up to help collect essential goods that will be sent to Bulgarian Sunday Schools in Ukraine (there are 63 Bulgarian Sunday Schools in Ukraine, attended by over 10,000 children). Ralitsa, Galina, and the Red Cross volunteers accepted the donations from schools in the area, recorded and organised the supplies, and prepared them for shipping to the children in need.
“It was so fulfilling to be part of this campaign. We all can make a difference and we are lucky our employer supports us in that.” - Ralista Mladenova

CluneTech Cares is the new name of our CSR Programme.
This year’s Group rebrand faced us with another challenge - the rename our Corporate Social Responsibility Programme #TaxbackGiveBack. Ever since the launch of the programme in 2007 one thing always stand out – our caring nature. Naturally, this brought us to the new name CluneTech Cares.
CluneTech Cares is a great representation of what we are – a team of truly caring individuals giving their best to support and add value not only to our customers and our team-mates but also to the communities in which we live and operate!
In October 2021, CluneTech took part in the Race for the Cure 2021 event. Race of the Cure is Europe’s biggest sporting event for women’s health. It helps to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Research. It was incredibly important to us that we participated in this event as cancer has impacted so many of our lives. It was amazing to see over 50 employees register and take part!

A Very Special Place Inc. provides a comprehensive network of programmes and services for people with intellectual and development disabilities and their families. With the guidance and support offered by AVSP, people of all ages find opportunities to achieve independence and self-fulfillment. We were approached by an Immedis employee who told us all about a golf outing hosted by and raising money for AVSP. Having heard all about the event and the services AVSP provide, we were delighted to sponsor a team of Immedis employees to take part.

We're absolutely delighted to have taken part in Jack & Jill's Up The Hill challenge again this year. By taking part and sharing their “Up The Hill” pictures on Workvivo, our employees not only had the chance to win some amazing surprises but also to represent the hill that the children of Jack & Jill climb each and every day, and to show solidarity with their families. Furthermore, CluneTech covered a €5,000 participation fee for our staff which goes toward providing crucial care to the Jack & Jill Foundation and the children who are relying on home nursing services.

CluneTech and Karin Dom in Bulgaria have launched a project called “Investing in Human Capital to Invest in the Future of Karin Dom” which aims to support the long-term vision of the center by increasing the focus and investment on the retention and the development of their specialists. CluneTech supported the first series of professional supervisions for the Karin Dom team, which were organized before the Covid-19 pandemic. Having witnessed the positive impact of these professional supervisions, we had no hesitations about continuing our support of this programme long-term.
This November, our colleagues in Romania supported two local organizations with donations of €1000 each. The first one, World Vision Romania, looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with the community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for them. The second beneficiary of the donation is the Center for Palliative Care „Sfantul Nectarie” which aims to relieve the suffering and provide the best possible quality of life for patients with serious illness and their families.

Friday 19 April, 2024 Kilkenny. Kilkenny-based software technology group, CluneTech, has been announced as the main sponsor of Kilkenny Tennis Club’s new Padel Tennis Court, which was completed in March 2024. The official opening event, which is due to take place this Saturday, April 20, will incorporate a Charity Tennis Tournament and social event, with all funds generated being donated to the Carlow Kilkenny Homecare Team.
Founded in 1879, Kilkenny Tennis Club is a not-for-profit club with all funds generated being reinvested in their tennis facilities and the development of the game. With over 1,200members, split into 700 seniors and 500 juniors, it is one of the largest and best regional tennis clubs in Ireland. It is a very active club with high grade facilities and always welcomes new members and visitors.
“Our club is very proud of our many achievements with our members winning numerous regional and national titles, our representative teams winning many Provincial Cups and a number of members having represented Ireland at international level.” Brian Doyle, President, Kilkenny Tennis Club
This sponsorship is part of CluneTech’s award-winning CSR Programme, CluneTech Cares. Established in 2007, CluneTech Cares is created by their people, for their people, and while the programme supports deserving charities and causes all over the world, it is driven by employee requests and has a momentous impact locally, both in Kilkenny, and in the various other communities where the company operates. This significant investment will enable Kilkenny Tennis Club to be the first in the region to offer Padel Tennis, the world’s fastest-growing racket sport, to its members.
“We are delighted to sponsor Kilkenny Tennis Club’s new Padel court,” said Terry Clune, CEO and Founder of CluneTech. “As an organisation, we are passionate about giving back and we are proud to support a number of fantastic local clubs in Kilkenny where our HQ is located. I’d like to give a special mention and thanks to our own team members, Eoin Dunphy, Éanna Brady, James Murphy, Patrick Dalton and Patrick O’Neill, who are all dedicated members of Kilkenny Tennis Club. Without them, this sponsorship wouldn’t have been possible. Padel tennis is a new and innovate sport, and we are really excited to play a part in ensuring it has a home right here in Kilkenny.”
Padel Tennis is played on an enclosed court, one third the size of a traditional tennis court. Its format is doubles and it uses traditional tennis scoring, combining action with fun and social interaction. It’s a fantastic sport for players of all ages and skills, as it is both quick and easy to pick up, with most players understanding the basics within the first half hour of play.
Edwin Walsh, Captain, Kilkenny Tennis Club, said: “Kilkenny Tennis Club was founded in 1879 at its current location in Archersfield, Kilkenny. As one of the largest tennis clubs in the country with 1,300 members, ranging in age from 2 to over 82, Kilkenny Tennis Club is constantly reinvesting in its facilities to enhance its members’ experience. On behalf of the Committee and members of Kilkenny Tennis Club, I would like to thank Terry and all the team at CluneTech for the incredibly generous sponsorship of our new Padel Court which is part of a wider redevelopment of playing surfaces and other facilities. We are immensely proud to be associated with such a progressive and innovative team and look forward to developing our partnership over the coming years.”
Jimmy Morrow, Development Chairman, Kilkenny Tennis Club, said: "We are delighted to have CluneTech join us as Sponsor of our new Padel Tennis Court and we very much value their significant investment in our club which enables us to greatly enhance our Sporting facilities with this innovative addition.”
In addition to the innovation this sport embodies, Kilkenny Tennis Club have also launched a green energy project, which to date has seen the installation of energy saving LED tennis flood lighting, reducing electricity consumption by over 44%; the installation of 36 Solar PV panels which allows the club to generate its own power, supplying any excess to the National Grid; air to water source heat pump which uses electricity generated from the club’s Solar PV system. The club’s commitment to reducing their environmental impact is just one of the reasons that CluneTech made the decision to support the club.
“At CluneTech, we always aim to support clubs, charities and causes whose values reflect our own,” said Rachael Quinlan, Head of Employee Experience, CluneTech. “Sustainability is one of the key pillars of our CSR Programme and we are super impressed at the club’s efforts to date. In addition, we recognise the importance of work-life balance and knowing that a number of our own team are also club members, made the decision to sponsor their new Padel Club a no brainer.”

At CluneTech, collaboration and recognition aren’t just buzzwords, they are the foundation of our culture. Nowhere is this more evident than in our OneTeam Awards, a signature recognition program that honours the spirit of unity, innovation, and excellence that drives our success.
Over 12 years ago, CluneTech launched an initiative to spotlight outstanding individual contributions through what was then known as Employee of the Quarter. As our company evolved, so too did our approach to recognition. In 2019, inspired by employee feedback, the program was reimagined and relaunched as the OneTeam Awards.
This transformation reflected more than just a name change — it marked a deeper commitment to recognising the collective effort that fuels our business.
Today, the OneTeam Awards take place twice a year, giving employees across the globe the opportunity to nominate a colleague whose contributions reflect one of our core values: Innovation, OneTeam, Passion, and Respect. These nominations reinforce our ongoing commitment to living these values in our everyday work.
The OneTeam Awards celebrate not only individual achievements but also the teamwork, creativity, camaraderie, and mutual respect that are essential to our culture and continued growth.

From lively in-office celebrations to heartfelt doorstep award deliveries during remote work, the OneTeam Awards have become a meaningful tradition filled with unforgettable moments. These celebrations strengthen the bonds between colleagues, highlighting the impact of each individual’s work, and reinforcing the values that make CluneTech a unique and inspiring place to be.
As our HR Manager in Bulgaria, Ekaterina Hristova, puts it:
“The OneTeam Awards represent more than just recognition, they show our people that what they do truly matters. These awards are a part of our company’s DNA. They celebrate our shared success and remind us that together, we are stronger.”
While the OneTeam Awards are a standout celebration of collaboration and excellence, they’re just one part of CluneTech’s broader commitment to recognising our people. We offer a wide range of recognition initiatives that celebrate contributions both big and small, across all levels of the organisation:
• Milestone Recognition Programme – Honouring the dedication of our long-serving team members.
• Global Employee of the Year Awards – Celebrating individuals whose impact and performance have stood out over the year.
• Workvivo Shout-Outs – Enabling real-time, peer-to-peer recognition for everyday efforts and achievements, both within and across teams.
• Celebrating Personal and Professional Highlights – From birthday cards and new baby gifts to congratulatory hampers for passing exams, we take pride in acknowledging life’s special moments and supporting our employees in all their successes.
At CluneTech, recognition is more than a program — it’s a reflection of who we are. The OneTeam Awards, along with our wider recognition initiatives, demonstrate our commitment to valuing every individual and celebrating the spirit of teamwork that drives our success. As we continue to grow and evolve, we remain dedicated to fostering a culture where people feel seen, appreciated, and inspired — because when we celebrate each other, we thrive together.

At CluneTech we are extremely passionate about the development of our people and understand the significance of the role a manager has to play in an employee’s development. With that in mind, we wanted to put together a useful guide that would empower and help our managerial staff to be the best manager that they can be. And who better to help us put together such a guide than our employees?
We asked our staff to nominate their manager and state three qualities that make them an Amazing Manager. The response was fantastic with 20 different managerial qualities being suggested. We then took the 6 most suggested qualities and expanded on them to create the ‘CluneTech Guide to Being an Amazing Manager’ which you can read below:

The managerial quality that our people value most is being ‘Supportive’. A manager can be supportive in many ways, whether it is ensuring that their team are aware that they can come to them should they need help, or by displaying encouragement, helping them to realise their potential, and showing appreciation for a job well done. Emotional Intelligence is a vital characteristic of a supportive manager. Having the awareness to recognize when something is troubling a member of your team or if they are in danger of becoming burnt out or disengaged is vital. The likes of LinkedIn Learning and Udemy offer some great courses on Emotional Intelligence should you wish to learn more about this important soft skill.
Our staff feel that being “Approachable” is the next most important characteristic for a manager. Approachability is imperative to forging a strong bond with your team. Having an approachable manager relaxes staff, allowing them to work to the best of their ability. Additionally, it increases their willingness to share new ideas as they know their manager is open to suggestions. Lacking in approachability will make it difficult to know what is going on with your team. Being approachable and building a good rapport with your team will encourage them to come to you with issues, updates, and information, more frequently, ensuring that you stay in the loop. This article by Forbes includes a great section on “How to Show Approachability”.
Our employees appreciate that open door policy!
As a manager, your team are looking to you for guidance. By leading by example you are able to create a picture of what’s possible. Here are some ways you can effectively lead by example;
Take Responsibility –Show that you are not above taking responsibility for when something doesn’t go to plan. Be proactive and get to work on correcting and bettering the situation.
Resolve Conflict Quickly – Conflict resolution is one of the most important skills a manager can have. Demonstrate that skill and put out any fires within your team quickly so that they don’t get out of control. By doing this you will set a good example and encourage your team to be proactive and quickly settle disputes between themselves.
Be Persistent – Another trait of strong leadership is the ability to remain steadfast in the face of adversity. Set an example for your team by dealing with issues in a proactive and constructive manner.
For more information on the benefit of Leading by Example and how to do it, check out this article by Indeed – 8 Ways to Lead by Example in the Workplace.
Our employees also identified being “Reliable” as an important characteristic for a manager to possess. A manager in charge of a team must be dependable. This involves being accessible to your staff, completing tasks as promised, and assisting your team as needed. Reliability is essential for building trust as it affords your team greater peace of mind, ultimately allowing for stronger relationships to be built and greater results to be delivered. Check out this blog post by Great Place to Work on “The Crucial Role of Reliable and Trustworthy Managers During a Crisis”.
There are a multitude of reasons as to why being a good motivator is essential when managing a team of people. Some of the advantages of a motivated team include; Increased Efficiency, Better Communication, Reduced Absenteeism and Turnover, Development of Leaders, and much more.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to suddenly become a Ted Talk caliber motivational speaker... Here are “9 Super Effective Ways to Motivate your Team” by Inc. to get your started.
The last valuable managerial characteristic, as identified by CluneTech employees, that we’ll discuss here in detail is “Clear Communication”. Building effective communication skills as a manager provides significant short and long-term benefits for your company and team. For example, a good communicator may inspire your team to accomplish more with better results and fewer misunderstandings. Take a look at this piece by Professional Development covering “Communication Skills for Managers”.
The importance of being a good listener also must not be understated when it comes to communication. By being a good listener a manager can not only secure new insights, ideas, and perspectives that will help their team to grow, but also maintain harmony and motivation among team members and ensure that they are a great people manager.
So there you have it, six of the most important managerial qualities as suggested by our employees. CluneTech is all about brilliant people and innovative technology, with the dynamic between our management and non-management staff being crucial to our success.
Do you have the qualities necessary to lead a team of CluneTech employees? Or do you want to work under an amazing management team that will help you to realise your potential. Whatever stage of your career you’re at, CluneTech may have the role for you. Visit www.clunetech.com/careers and explore our amazing opportunities today.

The Kilkenny-headquartered company today announced improvements across a range of leaves to support their people
Wednesday, 22 November 2023. Kilkenny-based software technology group, CluneTech, has today announced improvements across a range of leave types to support their people during the more difficult times they may face in life.
The changes announced today cover three key areas: compassionate leave, miscarriage and pregnancy loss leave, and IVF and pregnancy support leave. The announcement marks another significant step in CluneTech’s commitment to caring for, and supporting their people, and the additional leaves are available to all of the company’s 1,200 employees globally.
Compassionate leave, which is available from day one of employment, has been significantly increased, with the company now offering 4 weeks paid leave for the loss of a spouse or child. Employees can also avail of 5 days and 3 days paid leave for the loss of an immediate or non-immediate family member respectively.
The new policy also includes extended paid leave of five days for those impacted by pregnancy loss when this occurs prior to 24weeks, as after this the company’s paid maternity leave applies. In addition, where an employee’s partner has experienced pregnancy loss, they are now covered in the policy and can avail of the full five days paid leave.
Access to, and support during fertility treatment is a key focus of CluneTech, who earlier this year announced their support of The I Want a Baby Foundation in Bulgaria. Employees based in Ireland can already avail of best-in-class fertility care as part of the company’s health cover with Laya Healthcare. Previously, employees could avail of up to 3 days paid leave for IVF and pregnancy support. This has now been increased to 5 days paid leave and extended to the partner of a person undergoing IVF / pregnancy support.
The improvements announced today are part of an already extensive benefits package which includes Lifework Days ̶ an additional half day’s leave per quarter where employees can get their life jobs done without having to use their hard-earned annual leave, flexible working ̶ including remote and hybrid working, an award-winning Milestone Recognition Programme which rewards those who choose to grow their career with CluneTech, and much more. Last month, CluneTech were awarded Overall Excellence in HR at the 2023 HR Leadership &Management Awards for their innovative approach to flexibility.
Speaking about the leave enhancements, Terry Clune, CEO, CluneTech said: “CluneTech Cares about our people and their wellbeing and today’s announcement further strengthens our commitment to supporting them through the more difficult times they may face in life. Our people are at the heart of everything we do and as their employer, it’s our goal to ensure they feel supported and cared for, so that they can reach their full potential.”
Rachael Quinlan, Head of Employee Experience, CluneTech said: “We are really honoured to share these remarkable improvements with our global team. While these leave types tend to be the ones that we hope our people will never have to avail of, we hope that they take some comfort in knowing that our aim is to minimise their worries during challenging times. As always, these changes have been introduced as a direct result of employee feedback and we will continue to use their voice to drive change and to ensure that we truly are a great place to work.”

On February 17th, CluneTech, a fintech group with over 1,200 employees worldwide, received the "Employer Supporting Parents with Children" award by the Bulgarian Parents' Academy.
The Academy is one of the country’s largest communities, uniting specialists and organizations that support families. The inaugural edition of the awards seeks to highlight best practices in creating work environments that support parents with children.
With over 300 parents among its employees in Bulgaria alone, CluneTech was recognized in two categories: "Employers Offering the Most Flexibility" and "Employers with Innovative Ideas for Future Parenting Policies."

What sets CluneTech apart from other employers in the country is its high level of flexibility. In Bulgaria, 40% of employees work fully remotely, 45% follow a hybrid model, and only 15% work exclusively from the office.
Some of the benefits CluneTech offers its employees to support work-life balance and childcare include extra annual leave days, flex hours, which allow employees to complete their weekly hours over 4.5 days, and Lifework Days —a half-day each quarter employees can use to take care of personal matters.
“Besides the long list of traditional employee benefits such as additional health insurance, sports cards, and food vouchers, we are deeply committed to providing social and emotional support for our employees. Naturally, this support extends to parents as well. In addition to the fun celebrations and initiatives we organize for the children and families of our employees, we also support our colleagues during life's difficult moments. This includes miscarriage leave, extended leave for the loss of a loved one, and an Employee Assistance Program, providing free 24-hour psychological support for employees and their family members," shared Ekaterina Hristova, HR Manager at CluneTech in Bulgaria.
This is CluneTech’s second accolade in Bulgaria in 2025, after climbing to number 14 in the prestigious Top 100 Best Employers Ranking by Career Show Index.

Read MOREThursday, 24 March, 2022. Kilkenny-based software technology group, CluneTech (formerly Taxback Group), has been officially recognised as one of the Best Workplaces in Ireland™ for the seventh consecutive year. CluneTech was listed as the 20th Best Large Workplace in Ireland at the annual awards ceremony hosted by Marty Whelan and broadcast virtually on Wednesday, 23rd March, 2022.
The Best Workplaces in Ireland™ awards are part of the Great Place to Work programme, whose purpose is to celebrate organisations that have committed to creating a high-trust organisation. The award accreditation is based on direct feedback from employees, provided as part of an extensive and anonymous survey about the workplace experience, along with a culture audit carried out by each organisation. In addition to providing invaluable insights into the employee experience, the feedback serves to inform improvements that each organisation can make to enhance their workplace. The Best Large Workplace Awards are designed for companies with more than 250 employees.

Speaking about the recognition, CluneTech Founder and CEO, Terry Clune, said:
“As a suite of global companies, each varying in size and offering, it’s integral that the voice of our people is at the core of everything we do. Being named as one of Ireland’s Best Workplaces for seven years running is a fantastic achievement, and myself and the team are incredibly proud of the way in which our culture continues to evolve for the better.”
“I would like to extend my gratitude to each of our employees, both in Ireland and all over the world, who work together every day to ensure that CluneTech is a collaborative and inclusive company, and most importantly, that we truly are a Great Place to Work.”
Rachael O’Shea, Head of Employee Experience at CluneTech also commented:
“At CluneTech, we appreciate that one size doesn’t fit all and what might suit one employee, might not suit another. With this in mind, the last two years have seen us take a much more human approach to everything we do. Whether through the implementation of our new flexible working policy, or our multi-platform approach to communications and engagement, the most important thing for us is that we provide our people with the best possible experience – whatever that looks like to them!”
Cathal Divilly, CEO of Great Place to Work® Ireland, said:
"In a year that looked like a second edition of the previous one, putting people at the centre of organisations' strategies has been more challenging than ever. More than keeping the businesses economically on track, companies have faced numerous changes in health restrictions that have constantly required flexibility, adaptation, and resilience. Coping with digital fatigue and mental health difficulties among the teams has been an extra concern for leadership teams.
Congratulating each of the organisations on this year’s Ireland’s Best Workplaces list, Mr Divilly said that every organisation on this year’s list has reason to celebrate.
“Organisations that had invested in their culture and people before the pandemic have overcome these challenges with flying colours. Being recognised as one of Ireland’s Best Workplaces 2022 demonstrates these organisations’ commitment to improving their culture and putting their people first, whatever challenges they face. Ireland’s Best Workplaces can be very proud of their achievement in this particular year and have shown once again that working on the basics and with committed leadership dialled in on improving their culture will reap rewards when it comes to talent attraction and retention.”

Diana Brainova, Learning & Development Expert at CluneTech, sat down with Economy.bg to discuss the impact of our recent rebrand, and the improvements that CluneTech has made to its employee benefits package, including increasing the annual leave allowance for all Bulgaria-based staff. Check out her interview below!
For prospective employees, our new brand, CluneTech, clearly signals the focus on technology across our brands. It reflects our evolution and progress since 1996, when the group was first established, to what we are today – a hub for technology innovation, dedicated to making business better.
While our parent group has been rebranded from Taxback Group to CluneTech, we are still home to the same suite of innovative companies that continue to grow and attract more talent.
Part of our aim with the rebrand is to support our #OneTeam culture and approach with our employees. It applies to all employees and businesses across the group. CluneTech is about brilliant people and technology and our people remain at the core of everything we do. We rely on them to help us provide great customer experience and exceptional technology solutions to our customers, helping us to make business better.
We continue to improve our compensation package. After the recent upgrade announced in the summer of 2021, which included adding an Employee Assistance Programme and Life Insurance to our benefits package, we have decided to introduce an additional two days of annual leave, for all of our Bulgarian staff. These two days are in addition to the extra annual leave days given to long-term employees as part of our Milestone Recognition Programme, and they will apply to all staff from their first day of service in the company. The decision to increase the number of annual leave days aims to reward our employees for their continuous hard work and dedication. This new addition to our benefits package has been warmly welcomed by our people.
The pandemic conjured major changes to the way we work, ultimately leading to a future of flexibility at CluneTech. The transition to remote working was supported by our brand-new Flexible Working Policy which aims to give our employees more freedom and increased flexibility, helping them to achieve a better work-life balance. Our recent Pulse Survey data highlights that we made a step in the right direction – where 70% of staff expressed satisfaction with their work-life balance in Q1 of 2022, this figure had increased to 78% by the year’s end. We expect this additional leave will further help our people to balance their work and home lives.
Facilitating and responding to employee feedback is imperative to us here at CluneTech and many of the improvements we have made have been inspired by said feedback.
For instance, our employees, through various feedback channels, routinely expressed a need for a greater focus on learning & development. In response to this feedback, we introduced a brand-new Learning & Development strategy in 2021. This programme has been steadily gathering steam and improving the learning opportunities available to staff and this year will continue to focus on some key projects: our People Manager Development Programme, employee led career pathing, improving the new hire onboarding process, coaching and mentoring, and last but not least – LinkedIn Learning accounts to help our employees access the knowledge and skills they need to further their careers.
Our move to remote working has allowed us to place a greater emphasis on recognizing and rewarding our employees, and given us the opportunity to dramatically improve employee wellbeing and our benefits offering. We have successfully adapted our wellbeing and learning and development offerings to the online environment, helping us to stay competitive and to attract and retain the best talent.
Last year marked 20 years since the opening of our first office in Bulgaria. The company started with a small team of 15 employees and we are proud to say that, twenty years later, the majority of those employees are still working with us. Over the years our businesses have developed and the number of employees has increased tremendously. Currently, we employ nearly 1000 staff in Bulgaria alone. We have offices in Varna, Veliko Tarnovo and Shumen, but our current remote working model allows us to hire candidates from other locations too. IT and software development, finance and international taxation, customer care, marketing and human resources, are just some of the main areas for career development in CluneTech.
In the past year we hired nearly 200 new employees across Bulgaria. We expect to maintain these hiring rates in 2022. Although there is an increase in recruitment for IT and software development positions, we will continue to hire for finance and customer service roles too. Employees that are highly skilled in these areas are crucial to the success of our Bulgarian teams. We also continue to actively collaborate with local universities to advertise our internships and junior roles to prospective candidates.

Read MOREKilkenny, Wednesday, 1 June, 2022. It’s been an exciting few weeks for CluneTech after subsidiary, TransferMate, the world’s leading provider of B2B payments, became Ireland’s latest tech unicorn, and CluneTech was recognised as a Best Workplace in Tech for the accreditation’s second year.
Now, the Kilkenny-based software technology group has announced significant changes to its employee benefits package, placing a clear emphasis on employee wellbeing and work-life balance.
The enhancements reaffirm the company’s commitment to creating a flexible and responsive working environment where people feel valued for their individual skills and contributions, and where they are supported to truly reach their full potential.
New global benefits include “Lifework Days” ̶ an additional half day’s leave per quarter where employees can get their life jobs done without having to use their hard-earned annual leave. Whether it’s renewing insurance, getting the car NCT’d, or taking the kids to the beach, all can be done during this additional leave.
CluneTech is also introducing summer flex hours where employees can work their standard five-day week across four and a half days. The company expects that most people will take a half day on a Friday, giving them a longer weekend through the summer, but where possible, employees will be able to choose whichever half-day suits them.
Other initiatives introduced by the company include Meeting Free Days, to help free up employees’ time and enable them to carry out focused work without disruption, or take that time off without missing important meetings.
With increasing competition in the jobs market, CluneTech aims to stay ahead of the curve in attracting and retaining talent across its companies, and these additional benefits reinforce CluneTech’s commitment to its employees and to being a Great Place to Work™, having been listed as the 20th Best Large Workplace in Ireland this year. In addition, as well as being listed as a “Best Workplace in Tech”, the company has also been recognised as a Best Workplace for Women™, which recognises those organisations that are creating positive and supportive workplaces for women in particular.
Speaking about the benefit enhancements, CluneTech CEO and Founder, Terry Clune said:
“At CluneTech, our focus is on making business better for our customers worldwide and we aim to be the best at what we do. Our employees are the key to our success and we strive to be the best employer we can be, soliciting regular feedback from our people to ensure that we truly are a great place to work. As with our customers, we regularly ask our people “what could we do better?” and in our recent Great Place To Work Focus Groups and surveys, flexibility and work-life balance came out on top. Our enhanced employee benefits are a direct result of that feedback, designed to provide flexibility and improve work-life balance. My hope, and that of the rest of CluneTech’s leadership team, is that these additional benefits help our people to make the most of their free time, all while knowing CluneTech cares about them and their wellbeing.”
Rachael O’Shea, Head of Employee Experience at CluneTech also commented:
“These updates are not simply “improved benefits” and instead, represent a hugely positive shift in our culture. Just over two years ago, before the onset of the pandemic, the extent of our flexibility was staggered start and finish times. To now be in a position where our people are trusted and empowered to decide what works best for them is truly incredible. We’ve worked very hard to get to where we are now and we will continue to place the voice of our people at the core of everything we do.”
CluneTech has also enhanced its country-specific benefits for employees in Ireland, who are set to enjoy more annual leave days, increased sick leave support and earlier access to top-up salary for maternity leave and paternity leave, among a range of employee supports and benefits.
CluneTech is currently hiring across all functions, particularly Finance, Development, Compliance, Marketing and Operations. Learn more about CluneTech career opportunities here.

Thursday, February 29th, 2024. Kilkenny-based software technology group, CluneTech, has been officially recognised as one of the Best Workplaces in Ireland™. CluneTech was listed as the 18th Best Medium Workplace in Ireland at the annual Great Place to Work Awards on Wednesday 28thFebruary 2024. This is CluneTech’s 9th consecutive year to be named as a top Irish workplace, which is based on direct feedback from employees, provided as part of an extensive and anonymous survey about the workplace experience. This was a notable year for the Best Workplaces Awards, as it is the first time that 100 companies were recognised.
Speaking about the recognition, CluneTech Founder and CEO, Terry Clune, said:
“To be recognised as one of Ireland’s Best Workplaces for nine years running is an achievement that the leadership team and I are immensely proud of. Our people are our greatest asset, and this accreditation is testament to their willingness to collaborate with us in order to really make a difference.
Over the last nine years, we have seen a tremendously positive evolution in our culture which wouldn’t have been possible without our people, their feedback, and their overall dedication. Thank you to each and every one of our employees all over the world who go and beyond every single day to ensure that CluneTech truly is a great place to work.”
Rachael Quinlan, Head of Employee Experience, CluneTech said:
“As Head of Employee Experience, I have an incredibly unique perspective on the value that CluneTech places on being a truly great place to work. On one hand, I see the willingness of our people to share their feedback on what we’re doing well and what we could be doing better as their employer. And on the other hand, I seethe value our leaders place on this feedback, and we work together to bring about tangible change that puts our people first.
The goal of our #OneTeam culture is to foster collaboration, recognise and reward innovation and encourage entrepreneurship and seeing the full circle, from feedback to implementation, is a fantastic demonstration of it being brought to life. By collaborating with our people, and empowering them to shape our culture, our aim is to deliver a best-in-class employee experience, while simultaneously fuelling growth and innovation right across our suite of global businesses.”
Cathal Divilly, CEO of Great Place to Work® Ireland said:
"I'm delighted to extend a huge congratulations to all the exceptional companies recognised as a Best Workplace in Ireland 2024. These organisations' dedication to fostering an environment where all employees can thrive is inspiring, and this recognition is a testament to their unwavering commitment to maintaining this. They have exceeded expectations in their dedication to their employees and cultivated a great workplace culture where everyone can be themselves and thrive at work.
This achievement is not just a milestone but a reflection of their tireless efforts at crafting workplaces where talent not only flourishes, but also feels valued and empowered. I'd like to congratulate these organisations once again on this outstanding achievement, and may this recognition fuel their continued journey towards excellence and innovation.”
The recognition follows a very successful year for the organisation which saw CluneTech company Immedis, a leading global payroll platform, acquired by UKG for €575M, a deal which went on to win Deal of the Year at the Irish Times Business Awards earlier this month.
CluneTech are renowned for their commitment to their people, having won Overall Excellence in HR at the 2023 HR Leadership & Management Awards for their innovative flexible working strategy which offers a unique suite of benefits including Life Work Days, an additional half day's leave per quarter where employees can get their life jobs done, Summer Flex Hours, an extensive and unique lead offering, and more.
In November 2023, they further strengthened their commitment to supporting their people, announcing improvements across compassionate leave, with notable enhancements featuring paid leave for the loss of an employee’s spouse or child being increased to 4 weeks and the introduction of “Pet Compassionate Leave” where employees can avail of up to 2 days paid leave for the loss of a beloved pet. In addition, paid leave granted for both IVF / Pregnancy Support and Miscarriage / Pregnancy Loss were both increased to 5 days paid leave per year and extended to the partner. According to CluneTech, their aim is to not only celebrate the good times with their people, but also ensure that as an employer, they are supporting their teams during the more difficult times they may face in life.
