“Coronavirus Did Not Have Any Direct Impact on Our Business” - Terry Clune

The last few months haven’t been easy by any means. We have been, and continue to be, faced with unprecedented and ever-changing challenges due to Covid-19. At CluneTech, we’re extremely lucky to have amazing leaders and a workforce that has continued to collaborate, innovate and deliver, while adapting to the new situation very quickly.

But what’s the secret behind our success? Terry Clune, Founder and CEO of CluneTech, met exclusively (and virtually) with Economy.bg to share some valuable insights about how CluneTech has adapted to the Covid-19 pandemic and his inspiring story of building a sustainable business from scratch.

‍

Mr. Clune, has how the Covid-19 pandemic affected your business in Bulgaria and did you have to cancel any projects?

Terry: Coronavirus did not have any direct impact on our business. The services we provide are global, we’re not specific to one region or one industry and we provide a range of different financial services, mainly to global companies so our global business has not really stopped to any major extent.

We’ve been very successful at continuing to trade during the pandemic because of our tremendous team of people in Varna and across the world who are very committed, very experienced and very capable. We appreciate the work that all of our team have done across the world in getting through this difficult time.

‍

What were the main challenges for CluneTech in Bulgaria to adapt to the new situation?

Terry: Coronavirus has been challenging for every business across the world and it would have been more challenging for us but we adapted what we do very quickly, we were able to move our team to remote working very quickly. All of our teams are now working successfully from home and I expect that will continue to some extent into the future. Regarding working from home there were some expectations.

I expected that working from home would have an impact on our team’s productivity but I’m very thankful that our team really got focused and straight back into their work and from what we’ve seen most people have been even more productive in working from home. They’ve really gotten behind the business during the coronavirus pandemic and we’ve managed to get through it successfully thanks to everyone playing their part.

‍

Are your staff still working from home? is remote working something you plan to continue in the future?

Terry: For us it’s not really about whether we work from home or work in the office. Simply, it’s important for us that people are able to do their job wherever they are, be they at home or at work, it doesn’t really matter. I think into the future, I imagine many of our people will probably work half the time from home and half the time from the office. Remote working will definitely be an option, yes.

It won’t suit everybody but for those who wish to have that facility and are able to continue to perform it will definitely be a key option. I think it will be good for people and their lifestyles. Not having to commute or commuting less will mean more time at home with family for people. These are all valuable benefits for people and it’s definitely something that we’re keen to support into the future.

‍

What type of roles does CluneTech offer in Bulgaria?

Terry: Over the nineteen years now that we’ve been in Varna the work that we do has changed. It used to be very administrative and many of the people at the beginning of our business were involved in administrative roles. Now many of those roles have changed. They have become more expertise orientated, expertise in payroll, expertise in payments, expertise in taxes etc.

We also have a much larger technology team now than ever before. We currently work with nearly 150 people in technology across Bulgaria. Ultimately, the work here has changed from administrative to using technology to provide the services and with that roles and jobs are changing too. Many of the administrative people have now learned new skills and have developed into much higher technology/ higher skilled positions in our business. So right across our business the work has changed and now more than ever we need highly skilled people. I’m delighted that so many of our team leaders today have grown within the business and have learned and adopted the latest skills.

‍

Do you think that western companies will move away from South East Asia and move to Eastern Europe because of the Covid-19 pandemic? And could Bulgaria benefit from such a trend?

Terry: I think Bulgaria has done an extraordinary job of keeping the impact of the coronavirus very low in the country. One of the lowest contagion rates in Europe and is clearly a very safe place now and will be into the future to be doing business. The government have absolutely taken this issue very seriously and all the people too have taken it very seriously. Considering this, I think that Bulgaria can be a potential location for any company that is planning to relocate their business from Asia to Eastern Europe.

‍

How would you compare Bulgaria to other countries that you are operating in and do you see any challenges or other opportunities here?

We’ve always said that Bulgaria is a great place to do business. For example, most recently I’ve seen that wherever I go around Varna the internet connections are so fast. I read recently that Bulgaria have one of the top three internet speeds in the world. So they’re clearly very forward-thinking in terms of technology and in terms of things that really matter to people and to businesses.

I think over the last nineteen years I’ve seen dramatic improvements and in terms of the confidence of people there’s been a dramatic increase and also huge positive improvements in the way things are managed here. I’m sure not everything is perfect here, just like any country, but I’ve seen huge improvements in the local economy and local area and hopefully, that can continue forward into the future.

In terms of the Bulgarian people that we’ve been able to recruit and lead our teams here, they boast a wide range of skills from engineering to customer care and languages. There are very smart people here. It’s enabled our business to really grow technology wise and customer care wise across the world. Yes, there’s a lot of competition in Bulgaria and Varna to hire the best people.

We recognise that we want the best people to be working for our business and we’re very fortunate to have a fantastic team here and that’s what has enabled our business to be so successful. We also have a very strong and growing relationship relationships with local universities in Varna and in Veliko Tarnovo that has enabled us to identify people.

‍

Recent surveys of EY and Brookings Institution showed that employers in many countries are speeding up plans to automate their businesses as workers are forced to stay at home during the pandemic. Do you think automation in business will reduce the need for staff in CluneTech?

I think that this is not something that smart people should be concerned about. In our business, nineteen years ago, it was very non-automated and since then we’ve brought more and more automation to our business but our business has also grown more and more in terms of the number of people. The work that we do is no longer administrative, it’s more technology-enabled which leads to, for many people, more interesting work, more skilled work and more higher value added work.

For people who are willing to learn the more modern and updated skills, automation should not be a worry. Increased automation is definitely happening and our business would be a prime example of the impact of automation on services. I need and want our team to be learning the new skills and to be able to do the technology-enabled jobs.

Again, in our business, we’re not just focusing on one customer or one region. Our services are global, we’ve got customers in virtually every country in the world so it’s really about using the technologies available to provide the best service possible and having the best people driving that forward.

‍

How will this crisis transform the software/fin-tech industry in the long-run?

Fintech and financial business is very much changing to using more technology enabled services and we’re very much at the forefront of that. For example, in the payments space with TransferMate we’re building really cutting edge technology to help companies to manage their global payments. Our business in Varna is a combination of technology-enabled services and services which have a high degree of expertise in areas such as global payroll.

For example, we manage the global payroll for Uber and for Harvard from Varna. We manage global VAT tax for IBM and Google from Varna and we provide global services for hundreds of thousands of students who for example, study in North America. We provide tax return expertise to all their universities, so we are doing very significant and important work.

Also, Benamic our sales-promotion service will provide technology marketing services to very large companies like Canon. All of these services need technology but at the same time they need a very high degree of customer care and being able to do both of those things, technology and customer care together is why we continue to be very successful.

Really all of our services are driven by technology and we’ve got very strong technology people in our business in Bulgaria, a couple of which have strong expertise in customer care.

‍

You have gone a long way from your student years, returning from a summer in Germany and establishing a company in the kitchen of the family home. What’s the secret to building a sustainable business? What lessons have you learned along the way?

There’s a couple of important things people should think about in terms of that. I’m from a farm in rural Ireland, my parents encouraged me to start business when I was young. The first business I started was when I was eight years old. I used to collect fertiliser bags, plastic bags from farmers and I would fold them neatly and sell them to wood merchants who used them to sell firewood in. This was a great business for me as an eight year old as I was able to purchase my first bike, a yellow BMX bike. However, the biggest business lesson I learned was when I was nine years old.

My business went bust when another farmer’s son saw what I was doing and ended up getting a better bag than mine to sell, a see through bag so people could see how much firewood was inside. He ended up taking all my customers as he was able to sell them this better bag and he put me out of business. This was a really, really valuable lesson for me. As I was busy with my yellow BMX bike cycling around every Saturday and Sunday to all my farmers collecting the bags, I would also spend my money on chocolate.

Breakfast on a Saturday morning would consist of Snickers bars and I really felt like a cool dude. But I had gotten lazy and a bit complacent, while the kid competing with me asked the customers what he could do better and ended up sourcing a better bag. I lost all my customers then and as a result my business stopped.

There’s always opportunities to see how things can be done better. That was a very important lesson for me. You also need to surround yourself with positive people. People who are progressive rather than people who will hold you back or be critical or negative. In Varna, we’ve been very fortunate to hire an extraordinary team of people. Having fantastic people around you is a key to success for any business.

The number one of course is to be hiring the best people, be that in Ireland or in Bulgaria. We expanded our business to this extent by asking the customers ‘what can we do for you?’, ‘how else can we help?’, ‘what can we do differently or what can we do better?’ and as a result of those questions we now have many different businesses within the Group. If something changes for one business or the market changes, we are not just reliant on one company. Having a series of different businesses takes away an immediate risk.

The lesson here is that what any business must do, no matter if they’re Bulgarian or Irish, is to continue to find out from your customer what they want and stay on the pulse and keep you’re your eyes open for new opportunities because business changes all the time and the second you stop looking at how you could do better you’re going to be finished. The secret of a successful business is constantly wondering ‘how can we do this better?'.

‍

Do you think ambition or talent matters more for success?

I think success is like Einstein says, 99% hard work and 1% talent. I think talent comes from hard work. Some people are naturally talented but for most people by working at something you can become talented at it. That’s what I tell my kids, I have five children, three boys and two girls and what I would be saying to them would be by working hard at something you can become talented at it.

Be it learning to play chess or play a sport, yes some people are naturally talented at those things but by working hard, putting the effort in and continuing to try you can become talented and it’s the same in business. Lots of people have talent but don’t use it so it goes to waste. It’s the people that are moderately talented but put the effort in that become hugely successful. It’s all about making the effort.

‍

Private school or state school?

All of my schooling was in public schools. I think in Europe, for most countries the public school system is very good. I’m not sure what it’s like here in Varna but the EU would be very supportive of Ireland, ensuring that we don’t need to have huge fees for private education.

The university sector in Ireland too is ultimately, not crazy expensive compared to places like America. I think Ireland and Bulgaria have much in common in the education sector. The public system in both countries is what most people use and in general, it’s a good system.

‍

Should young people go to university or go straight into work, what do you think provides a better experience?

I’ve met many people who were successful in business without going to university but I know a lot of them would feel at a disadvantage having not gone to university. University gives you, if anything, confidence. Confidence from getting through it. Many of the people I’ve met in business that have been successful but didn’t go to university would usually say that if they had one regret it would be not going to or not finishing university because of the confidence that it can bring you.

In Ireland now and in Bulgaria, there are very high rates of people going to university which is hugely valuable for the economy into the future. I would be encouraging everyone if possible to try and finish your 3rd level education even though it’s not always easy to do, it brings you such confidence in the long term.

We have an extensive Milestone Recognition Program that rewards employees that choose to build a long and successful career with us. As part of this programme, we love celebrating and sharing the stories of those reaching major milestones with the company.

This month we caught up with Aisleen Dowling, TransferMate's VP Partnership Sales, EMEA who has been on our team for the last 10 years.

‍

What is your favorite thing about working in TransferMate?

I know it is said a lot, but definitely the people. I am in daily contact with multiple colleagues across many departments within the company and they’ve always been a pleasure to work with.
‍

What has been your biggest achievement or highlight since joining TransferMate?

Signing TransferMate’s very first Global Account API with my partner Fyorin way back in 2022.
‍

Who or what has inspired you the most during your time here?

Probably the partners I’ve had the opportunity to work with. Being exposed to different business models and seeing how companies are solving problems across the payments industry has challenged me to learn and develop my own knowledge.

What is the biggest chane that you have witnessed in your time here?

I would probably say the evolution of the company. When I started in Direct Sales, our client conversations were much more traditional. Today, we’re delivering API integrations for embedded payments with some of the biggest names in their respective industries.
‍

What is the greatest challenge that you have faced in your time here and how did you overcome it?

Moving from Direct Sales into Partnerships was quite a challenge as it was completely new territory for me. I had to learn an entirely different and more complex proposition and way of selling, but I quickly realised I was really comfortable in that space and enjoyed the challenge of learning something new.
‍

What has been your favourite project to work on?

I would probably say TriumphPay. It was the first nested-flow API partnership I worked on, so there was a lot for me to learn throughout the process. It really helped develop my understanding of more complex payment flows and gave me a strong foundation for the partnerships and prospect discussions I’ve worked on since.
‍

Do you have advice for someonewho is just starting their career in CluneTech / TransferMate?

Stay curious and don’t ever be afraid to ask questions. The payments industry is one where you are constantly learning, and some of the best opportunities I’ve worked on over the past ten years have come from being willing to step outside my comfort zone and take on something new.

10 Years at CluneTech - Interview with Margaret Corrigan

At CluneTech, we have an extensive Milestone Recognition Program that rewards employees that choose to build a long and successful career with us. As part of this programme, we love celebrating and sharing the stories of those reaching major milestones with the company.

This month we caught up with CluneTech's Chief Information Security Officer, Margaret Corrigan who has been on our team for the last 10 years.

What is your favorite thing about working in CluneTech?

It may sound like a cliché, but the people here genuinely make a real difference. I have the opportunity to work across IT and all of the businesses, and what stands out most is the willingness of everyone to collaborate and work together to achieve the best possible outcome for the organization.

That collaborative spirit extends to the Senior Management team, whose accessibility, support, and ability to make timely decisions play a crucial role in enabling progress. There is a strong culture of open communication and development of a “One Team” mentality. Having people work with you and not against is certainly one of my CluneTech favourites!

What has been your biggest achievement or highlight since joining CluneTech?

My biggest achievement since joining CluneTech has been recruiting a strong team of information security and data protection expertise, and collectively they have helped to build a strong culture of information security awareness across the business. I am extremely proud of my team and how, together with IT, we have significantly improved the organization's overall security posture. It has been a collective effort, and seeing the positive impact of that work has been incredibly rewarding.

One of the highlights has been watching colleagues confidently identify and report suspected phishing emails, or proactively reach out to the team to validate new solutions and ensure they are secure before implementation. Seeing security become part of everyday decision-making, rather than an afterthought, has been a real milestone. It demonstrates that security is now viewed as a shared responsibility across the organization, and knowing that my team and I have helped foster that mindset is something I am particularly proud of.

What is the biggest change that you have witnessed in your time here?

The biggest change I have witnessed during my time here has been the remarkable pace of growth across the business and the technology transformation that has supported it. The adoption of AWS has provided the scalability, resilience, and agility needed to enable expansion, while more recent advancements in AI are creating new opportunities to improve efficiency, enhance decision-making, and drive innovation across the organization. The businesses are constantly evolving which certainly makes it an interesting place to work.

What is the greatest challenge that you have faced in your time here and how did you overcome it?

One of the greatest challenges I faced during my time with CluneTech was preparing the organization for compliance with the GDPR legislation in less than four months. Having successfully achieved ISO 27001 certification in February 2018, we then had to rapidly shift our focus to ensuring the business was ready for GDPR by the May 2018 enforcement deadline.

The key to our success was taking a structured and pragmatic approach. We conducted a comprehensive gap analysis to identify where we stood against the GDPR requirements, prioritized the areas of greatest risk and impact, and developed a focused action plan with clear ownership and milestones.

Success was only possible through strong collaboration between the Information Security team, IT, and business subject matter experts across the organization. By working together, maintaining open communication, and staying focused on our priorities, we achieved compliance within the required timeframe.

What has been your favourite project to work on?

It’s difficult to choose just one project, as I've been fortunate to work on so many rewarding initiatives over my CluneTech years. However, my very first project to implement an information security system and achieve ISO27001 certification will always hold a special place in my heart.

As I was new to the company, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was overwhelmed by the level of support I received from colleagues across IT, the wider business, and the Senior Management team. There was a genuine sense that everyone understood the importance of what we were trying to achieve and was willing to contribute. It really felt like we were all leading the charge together.

That experience set the tone for everything that followed. It reinforced the collaborative culture of the organization and showed me that when people work together with a shared purpose, you can achieve great things. Looking back, it wasn't just a memorable project—it was the beginning of a journey that has been both professionally rewarding and personally fulfilling.

Do you have advice for someone who is just starting their career in CluneTech?

My advice to someone just starting their career would be to embrace every opportunity to learn and grow. As the business continues to expand, there are plenty of opportunities to take on new challenges, broaden your experience, and develop your skills. Make the most of the support available, whether that's through training, mentoring, or learning from the experienced people around you.

Apply yourself fully to your role. Over time, you'll discover the aspects of your work that you genuinely enjoy and those that come most naturally to you. Once you've identified those strengths and interests, look for opportunities to develop them further. Building a career is a journey, and being proactive, open to learning, and willing to step outside your comfort zone will help you make the most of the opportunities that come your way.

5 Years at CluneTech - Interview with Yoanna Lyubenova

At CluneTech, we have an extensive Milestone Recognition Program that rewards employees that choose to build a long and successful career with us. As part of this programme, we love celebrating and sharing the stories of those reaching major milestones with the company.

This month we caught up with Sprintax's US Tax and Payroll Expert, Yoanna Lyubenova who has been on our team for the last 5 years.

‍

Favourite thing about working in CluneTech

My favorite thing about the company is the team I work with, who supports me, and the freedom we are given to offer ideas and be innovative in what we do.

‍

What has been your biggest achievement or highlight since joining CluneTech?

My biggest achievement is the fact that I started working in the company while I was still a student and managed to continuously learn, improve and take on new responsibilities in my role. As a highlight, I would probably say the fact that I started my journey on becoming an IRS enrolled agent.

‍

What is the biggest change that you have witnessed in your time here?

The biggest change so far has been the growth of our team. When I came, there were only 5 of us, now we’ve expanded, and continue to grow. Over time, we’ve been granted more responsibilities which allow us to learn new stuff and give us an opportunity for carrier development.

‍

What is the greatest challenge that you have faced in your time here and how did you overcome it?

Talking in front of an audience – all introverts will understand. I was super concerned and overwhelmed by the fact that I will be onboarding new clients and making calls with already existing partners. I just decided I’ll continue challenging myself until I felt comfortable doing it. Over time, it indeed started becoming easier and easier to do it daily.

‍

What has been your favourite project to work on?

Our partnership with FIFA on World Cup 2026.

‍

Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting their career in CluneTech?

My advice is – try socializing with as many people as possible. Everyone here has unique knowledge and skills, so you can learn something useful from everyone. Being reliable - consistently meeting commitments builds trust faster than occasional standout achievements. Focus on learning and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

25 Years at CluneTech - Interview with Louise Coleman

At CluneTech, we have an extensive Milestone Recognition Program that rewards employees that choose to build a long and successful career with us. As part of this programme, we love celebrating and sharing the stories of those reaching major milestones with the company.

This month we caught up with CluneTech's Payment Authoriser, Louise Coleman who has been on our team for the last 25 years.

Favourite thing about working in CluneTech
#OneTeam - working in shared services allows you to work with people from each entity. This in turn leads to versatility where no two days are the same!

What has been your biggest achievement or highlight since joining CluneTech?
Reaching 25 years 😊

Who has inspired you the most during your time here?
The commitment and consistency of the leadership team, in particular Terry, who demonstrates exceptional innovation and leadership which has led to the incredible growth of the company. From winning the EY Entrepreneur of the year to the Outstanding Achievement Award at the national Fintech Awards 2025, just reflects the drive and continued ambition to grow and expand the business. There are also many employees in both Ireland and Bulgaria who have been with the group for many years, which is a testament to the culture and leadership that have been developed.

What is the biggest change that you have witnessed in your time here?
Expansion! When I started in Eden Quay, in a small office, there was approx. 20 people working on Taxback or ESS Tax Refunds as it was known back then. To have witnessed and been involved in many aspects of the business over the years, and see it grow to the incredible Group it is today, has been amazing.

Also the move from Dublin to Kilkenny was a pretty big change back in 2003!

What has been the greatest challenge that you have faced in your time here and how did you overcome it?
The move to remote working during Covid – to no longer be in the office environment with daily support of team around you and adapt to working more individually. During this time, lockdown in particular, lead to a sense of guilt for working and not spending time with a 2 year old who was home all day, or a sense of guilt for spending time with my 2 year old and not being at the desk. It took some time to get the balance right but once things settled down, it became the best possible outcome and hard to imagine a full week in the office now!

What has been your favourite project to work on?
I have been involved in Company Secretarial role for the group for a number of years, and have really enjoyed getting more involved in this space. Having had the opportunity to complete a course with Law Society of Ireland recently, it has provided a comprehensive understanding of the company law framework and key corporate governance, which has been great to apply to everyday company secretarial tasks.

Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting their career in CluneTech?
Embrace change – there have been numerous changes over the years and while they may appear challenging at the beginning, from my experience, most change is for the better in the long run.

Building a Stronger Sales Culture at Benamic

Following the recent 25th anniversary celebrations of CluneTech’s Varna office, our Benamic team continued the momentum with a two-day Sales Culture Organisation training held on 28–29 April in Varna, Bulgaria.

Bringing together more than 50 colleagues from across the organisation, the initiative reflects Benamic’s ongoing commitment to strengthening collaboration, enhancing customer experience, and embedding a unified, customer-first mindset across all teams.

The training, delivered by Pavel Panov, PhD, from In Your Hands, centred around a dynamic business simulation designed to mirror real-world organisational challenges. Through highly interactive sessions, participants explored how decision-making, communication, and internal alignment directly influence the customer journey.

Teams from Web Development, Customer Service, Client Success, Sales, and Project Management took part across the two days, with the programme also welcoming international colleagues, including participants from Ireland. This cross-functional and cross-border approach reinforced the importance of shared accountability in delivering consistent value to customers.

‍

‍

A central theme throughout the training was clear: every team plays a role in shaping the customer experience. Whether client-facing or operating behind the scenes, the way teams collaborate internally has a direct and measurable impact on external outcomes.

Through a series of practical exercises and guided reflections, participants were encouraged to challenge existing ways of working, identify areas for improvement, and adopt a more commercially aware and customer-oriented perspective.

‍

As Julian Morrison, CEO of Benamic, shared:

“This was a focused reset on how we approach sales - not just as a function, but as a culture built on trust, clarity and consistently delivering on our commitments.

What stood out was the level of engagement across the team and a clear, shared intent to become a more customer-oriented business. There’s a strong willingness to challenge how we work today and raise the bar on how we deliver value to our customers.”

‍

The training marked an important step in Benamic’s journey towards building a stronger, more aligned organisation - one where sales is not confined to a single function, but embedded in the mindset and actions of every team.

With strong engagement, practical insights, and a clear focus on application, the initiative sets the foundation for continued progress. The next step is clear: to translate these learnings into everyday practice and further elevate the standard of delivery across the business.

July CSR Spotlight: Supporting Children’s Health Charities

Throughout July, our CSR Spotlight focused on supporting two fantastic charities dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families: Children’s Health Foundation in Ireland and Karin Dom Foundation in Bulgaria.

To show our support, we introduced the 100 Skips a Day Challenge!

The challenge encouraged colleagues to complete 100 skips each day throughout July, combining physical activity with support for two worthwhile causes. It was a fun way to get moving, build healthy habits and raise awareness of the important work these organisations do for children and their families.

Colleagues at Kilkenny HQ could pick up a skipping rope pack behind Reception, making it easy to get involved, while those working remotely were encouraged to take part from wherever they were.

Thank you to everyone who got involved in the challenge and helped shine a light on our charity partners and the important work they do. Every effort counts, and we’re proud to continue supporting causes that make a positive difference to children and families.

August CSR Spotlight: Supporting Animal Welfare

August was all about our furry friends!

As part of our August CSR Spotlight on animal welfare, we invited our teams around the world to share photos of their beloved pets for our Pets of CluneTech competition - and we loved seeing all the adorable entries!

From cute faces to funny moments, it was lovely to meet some of the four-legged members of the wider CluneTech family and see the joy they bring to our colleagues’ lives.

But the fun was about more than just sharing pet photos! For everyone who took part, CluneTech made a monetary donation to our dedicated animal welfare charity, helping support a cause that makes a real difference to animals in need.

A big congratulations to our winners, Fifi, Leo and Miko, and a huge thank you to everyone who entered and helped make this initiative a success. Of course, a special mention goes to all the pets and their humans for getting involved!

September CSR Spotlight: World Suicide Prevention Day

This September, Kilkenny HQ took on a new challenge in support of World Suicide Prevention Month, with CluneTech’s very own HYROX-style fitness event in collaboration with PF Coaching!

Colleagues teamed up in pairs to tackle eight fitness stations, with a 500m or 800m run between each station. From pushing themselves through each challenge to cheering on their teammates, the event brought plenty of energy, teamwork and friendly competition to the day.

For every CluneTech employee who took part, CluneTech made a donation to charity in support of World Suicide Prevention Month, helping raise awareness of an important cause and reinforcing the importance of looking out for one another.

With expert support from the PF Coaching team, healthy snacks to keep everyone fuelled, refreshments afterwards and some great prizes up for grabs, the event was a fantastic way to bring colleagues together for fitness, fun and a meaningful cause.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the event such a success, and to PF Coaching for helping bring it all to life!

Inside Na Cait Óga: Developing the Next Generation of Kilkenny Hurlers

As the Na Cait Óga season came to a close, we visited Nowlan Park to go behind the scenes to learn more about the work that goes into developing the next generation of Kilkenny hurlers.

Supporting the I Want a Baby Foundation in Varna, Bulgaria

Last quarter, CluneTech has made its fourth consecutive donation to the I Want a Baby (Iskam Bebe) Foundation in Varna, helping to fund psychological support groups for individuals and couples experiencing infertility.

Since we began supporting the programme in 2023, more than 55 women have received psychological and emotional support through individual counselling sessions, therapeutic support groups and access to valuable information. Five support groups, each lasting between three and six months, have been organised over this period, while individual counselling continues to support women throughout their fertility journeys. 27 children have been born to women who have taken part since the beginning of CluneTech's partnership with Iskam Bebe in Varna.

In 2027, The I Want a Baby Foundation will celebrate its 20th anniversary, and thanks to the joint efforts of the foundation, volunteers, patients, doctors, psychologists, public institutions, responsible businesses and individual donors, more than 20,000 much-wanted children have been born over the past two decades.

We are honoured to continue supporting this meaningful cause.
‍

Volunteering at CluneTech

Introduced in 2021, our CSR Volunteer Day empowers each employee to give back to the charities and causes closest to them. Since the inception of Volunteer Day, 160+ CluneTech employees have contributed to causes which they find meaningful, and this number keeps growing. See what they had to share with us about their experience this quarter:

‍

Volunteering at the Regional Libraries in Varna and Razgrad

In August, four of our colleagues in Varna, Bulgaria, used their Volunteer Day at the "Pencho Slaveykov" Regional Library, where they spent the day helping move books from the archive to a new space in the building, as well as organising and arranging the library's book collection. Going a step further, Elina Borisova, who works for our company entirely remotely, dedicated her annual volunteer day to the Razgrad library in her home town, reading books to small children who visited for an open doors day event.

This is our second time helping with such a cause, following our first big volunteering event in October 2025, when we learned about the long-term goal of Varna's largest public library to work with volunteers, as is common practice in many other European countries.

Volunteering at the Medical and Social Care Home for Children in Varna

This July, our wonderful volunteers spent their time at Varna’s Children’s Residential Care Centre, a place and organization providing medical care, rehabilitation and support to children with disabilities, chronic conditions and their families. Our colleagues helped clean and tidy the outdoor areas, took care of basic maintenance around the facility grounds and contributed to general outdoor improvements, helping create a more welcoming, pleasant and caring environment for the children, parents and staff. Our colleagues' contribution follows our donation to the center earlier this year, when we donated three hospital beds to help furnish the first hospital unit of its kind in Bulgaria dedicated to palliative care for children aged 7 to 18.

April's CSR Spotlight: CluneTech Goes Green

As sustainability continues to be a key pillar of our CSR programme, CluneTech Cares, we were delighted to once again celebrate #CluneTechGoesGreen throughout April, marking World Earth Day by encouraging our people to make a positive impact on both our community and the environment.

This year, we hosted a Clothing Drive at our Kilkenny HQ in aid of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP). Colleagues were invited to donate clean, reusable clothing, helping to reduce textile waste while supporting individuals and families in need within our local community.

The clothing drive took place alongside our April Pre-Pay Day Lunch, making it easy for colleagues to get involved by bringing along a donation while enjoying lunch together.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our team, we collected an amazing 25 bags of clothing, all of which have now been delivered to St. Vincent de Paul. These donations will make a meaningful difference to local people and families while promoting more sustainable habits across CluneTech.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported the initiative. We'd also like to give a special mention to Johnny Caldwell, Gary McCarthy, Jamie Hogan, and our Great Place to Work representatives Kaylyn Burke and Muireann McMahon, who kindly helped transport all of the donations to SVP.

It was fantastic to see so many colleagues getting involved and supporting this year's #CluneTechGoesGreen initiative. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success and for continuing to demonstrate CluneTech's commitment to sustainability and giving back to our communities.

May's CSR Spotlight: World MS Day

In honour of World MS Day, CluneTech Cares dedicated May's CSR spotlight to supporting people affected by multiple sclerosis and raising awareness of the challenges faced by individuals and families living with MS.

This year, we proudly hosted the CluneTech Goals for Good football match at The Watershed, bringing teammates together for an afternoon of sport, teamwork and community spirit. The event was organised to raise both funds and awareness for World MS Day, reinforcing CluneTech's commitment to supporting meaningful causes through our CSR programme.

It was fantastic to see colleagues come together, whether playing on the pitch or cheering from the sidelines, to support this important initiative. The enthusiasm, team spirit and generosity shown throughout the event made it a great success.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, supported the event and helped raise awareness for World MS Day. Your involvement continues to demonstrate the values at the heart of CluneTech Cares and the positive impact we can make when we come together for a good cause.

June's CSR Spotlight: Pride Month

This June, CluneTech Cares proudly celebrated Pride Month, recognising and supporting the LGBTQ+ community while promoting inclusion, respect and belonging across our teams.

Throughout the month, colleagues came together to take part in a range of Pride-themed activities across our offices. One of the highlights was our Pride Rowathon Challenge at Kilkenny HQ, where teams competed in a fun and energetic rowing challenge in support of a great cause. It was fantastic to see so many colleagues getting involved, creating an incredible atmosphere filled with team spirit and friendly competition.

Congratulations to James Tuohy and Maeve Mansfield, who achieved the best team score of 4,904 metres during the 10-minute challenge. A special mention also goes to Kevin O'Connell, whose determination and sense of humour earned him a well-deserved prize after completing his row in a pair of jeans!

To round off the celebrations, we hosted an LGBTQ+ webinar, both in person and virtually, giving colleagues across all of our locations the opportunity to come together, listen, learn and celebrate Pride. Meanwhile, our Dublin HQ marked the occasion with a Pride-themed Pre-Pay Day Lunch, helping to spread the celebrations across our offices.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part throughout the month. Whether you participated in the Rowathon, attended the webinar, joined our Pride celebrations or showed your support in other ways, your involvement helped make Pride Month a meaningful celebration of diversity, inclusion and community across CluneTech.

CluneTech Volunteers Support Varna Zoo

This June, CluneTech employees took part in their first volunteering initiative at Varna Zoo, dedicating their CSR day to supporting one of the city’s most beloved attractions.

Our team of six volunteers spent the day cleaning and refreshing several areas of the zoo, helping to create a more welcoming environment for both visitors and animals. They also had the opportunity to assist with feeding and caring for some of the zoo’s residents, gaining first-hand insight into the important work carried out by the zoo’s staff.

Established in 1961, Varna Zoo spans 23 decares and is home to more than 400 animals from 60 different species. Welcoming over 150,000 visitors annually, it plays an important role in education, conservation, and animal welfare within the local community.

Driving the Future of Women in STEM with F1 in Schools

CluneTech was proud to support this year's F1 in Schools (STEM Racing) programme, an inspiring initiative that encourages young people to develop their skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through innovation, teamwork and creativity.

Ahead of the national finals in Kinsale, we welcomed the participating teams from Loreto Secondary School, Kilkenny to CluneTech, where they presented their projects and showcased the months of work that had gone into designing, engineering and promoting their race cars. It was a fantastic opportunity for our team to learn more about each project and witness firsthand the creativity, professionalism and determination of these talented young students.

We would also like to recognise their teacher, Anthony Mulvihill, whose dedication and guidance helped prepare the students throughout the competition. His commitment to encouraging young people to pursue STEM opportunities played a key role in the success of the programme.

CluneTech was delighted to support the teams on their journey to the national competition as part of our commitment to encouraging more young women to pursue opportunities in STEM.

We were thrilled to see the students perform so well at the STEM Racing National Finals, with Treoluas Racing securing an outstanding second-place finish. Congratulations to all of the students who represented Loreto Secondary School in Kinsale. Their hard work, teamwork and innovation were evident throughout the competition, and they should be incredibly proud of their achievements.

We look forward to continuing to support initiatives that inspire the next generation of female innovators, engineers and leaders.

CluneTech Cares First Quarter Recap

Our CSR Programme - CluneTech Cares, is a fantastic representation of what we are - a team of truly caring individuals giving our best to support and add value, not only to our customers, but also to the communities in which we operate. CluneTech Cares is employee-led and has three key pillars: Wellness, Culture & Community, and Sustainability. It has been a busy quarter so make sure to check out some of our latest activities below

January CSR Spotlight: Tackling Loneliness

January can be a particularly challenging time, especially for older people and those experiencing loneliness.

During January, CluneTech was proud to support ALONE in Ireland and Caritas in Bulgaria. Two remarkable organisations dedicated to reducing isolation and providing essential support to vulnerable communities.

To help raise both awareness and funds, we organised CSR Walks in Kilkenny and Dublin in support of ALONE, while our teams in Bulgaria took part in walks for Caritas.

A sincere thank you to everyone who participated, shared their 5k walk screenshots, and helped highlight this often-overlooked issue. Your contributions are making a real and lasting impact.

February CSR Spotlight: World Cancer Day

February offered a welcome opportunity for colleagues in the Kilkenny office to come together and mark Pancake Tuesday with a Pancake Bar.

This initiative not only provided an enjoyable occasion for staff to connect, but also supported the Irish Cancer Society, raising both funds and awareness for the essential services they deliver nationwide.

March Spotlight: Autism Awareness Day

This March, CluneTech proudly dedicated our CSR Spotlight to World Autism Awareness, supporting incredible charities that provide essential services to individuals and families affected by autism.

Autism is a neurological difference that shapes how people experience the world, and while awareness is growing, there’s still much work to be done in building a more understanding and inclusive society.

To raise awareness and funds, we hosted a lunchtime run/walk at our Kilkenny HQ on March 25th. Between employees and the TY students participating in the CSR walk, to people joining our Patric Fitness Class, the turnout was amazing in both our Kilkenny and Dublin HQ's! 👏

Thanks to our participation, we have made a monetary donation to our dedicated autism awareness charity going towards an amazing cause.

‍

Blood Donation Campaign in Varna

On the 13th of March, 18 employees in Varna donated blood! In 2024, in Bulgaria, blood donation was recognized as a voluntary activity for which the company allows employees to use their company-paid volunteer day. This made organising our blood donation campaign only a matter of time and we couldn’t be prouder of the impact we’ve made together.

CluneTech and Cois Nore: In It Together for Kilkenny’s New Cancer Support Centre

Cancer touches so many families, and Cois Nore has been a steadfast and compassionate support to the people of Kilkenny for over a decade. We are proud to support the development of the new Cois Nore therapy wing and the vital work that will continue there. We are in it together with Cois Nore and with the people of Kilkenny.”

For our U16 hurlers and footballers, this marks a key stage as they continue to progress within the Kilkenny system, building strong habits around preparation, discipline and performance.

Nights like this reflect the high standards being set across the academy and the collective effort of players, coaches and families in supporting long-term development both on and off the pitch.”
‍

Tommy Farrell, Kilkenny Camogie Development Officer, added:

“This was a really special evening for Kilkenny Camogie, bringing players, families and coaches together to celebrate the progress made by our U15 academy and development squads. It’s important to take time to acknowledge the enjoyment, confidence and personal growth that comes from being part of the academy journey.

The awards night captured the positive atmosphere around the programme and highlighted the strong sense of community that supports our young players as they continue to develop and enjoy the game.”
‍

PJ Kenny, Chairman of Kilkenny GAA, said:

“The Academy Awards are an important occasion in the underage calendar, giving young players the opportunity to be recognised for their commitment and effort throughout the year. It is a proud moment for players, families and coaches, and a reminder of the standards being developed within the Kilkenny academy pathway.”
‍

Theresa Aylward, Kilkenny Camogie Chairperson, added:

Their support allows us to continue developing and supporting our young camogie players, and occasions like the Academy Awards are an important opportunity to recognise their progress and encourage them as they work to reach their potential within Kilkenny’s high-performance environment.”

The two awards evenings reflected the strength of the partnership between CluneTech, Kilkenny GAA and Kilkenny Camogie, and a shared commitment to providing young players with a supportive and high-quality development environment. As the academy programmes continue to grow, the focus remains on nurturing talent, building character and ensuring that young athletes across the county are given every opportunity to reach their potential both on and off the pitch.

CluneTech and Cois Nore: In It Together for Kilkenny’s New Cancer Support Centre

Thursday, 29th of January 2026. Today, CluneTech and Cois Nore announced a sponsorship supporting the development of a dedicated therapy wing at Cois Nore’s new Cancer Support Centre in Kilkenny, marking a significant milestone and an important investment in the future of cancer support services for the people of Kilkenny

CluneTech’s sponsorship will fund the refurbishment and fit-out of the therapy wing within the new Cois Nore House.

Every day in County Kilkenny, two families receive a cancer diagnosis, beginning a journey that affects not only the individual but also their families, friends, and communities. Since 2013, Cois Nore has been a safe haven for those living with cancer, providing free, professional, community-based support.

As demand has outgrown its Walkin Street premises, work is now underway on a new purpose-built centre on the Waterford Road. The new Cancer Support Centre is expected to open in March 2026 and will meet the growing needs of people affected by cancer across Kilkenny.

CluneTech’s sponsorship provides vital funding for a modern, purpose-designed therapy space that will support individuals and families throughout their cancer journey. Alongside community generosity, government support, and contributions from other supporters, this investment is helping to bring the new centre closer to completion and enables Cois Nore to continue delivering free, confidential support and professional and voluntary services to people of all ages.

The new Cois Nore House will include dedicated therapy rooms, safe spaces for children and teenagers, group support facilities, and activity areas designed to nurture recovery and dignity. It will provide a welcoming environment where individuals and families can access guidance, compassion, and community at a time when they need it most.

Terry Clune, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of CluneTech, said:

“Kilkenny is home for many of us at CluneTech, and we recognise the importance of standing with our community during difficult times.

Bill Cuddihy, Chairperson of Cois Nore, said:

“Cois Nore is very grateful for the support we have received from all sections of the community in Kilkenny. CluneTech’s sponsorship is a powerful statement of solidarity and shows a deep investment in the wellbeing of the community. Together, we are building a centre that protects dignity, nurtures recovery, and empowers hope.”

Mary Dolan, Manager of Cois Nore, said:

“The people of Kilkenny deserve a Cancer Support Centre with the space and resources to deliver a high-quality service. This partnership with CluneTech helps us take an important step towards that vision. Cois Nore has become like a second family for so many, and this new centre will allow us to welcome more people into a space that truly meets their needs.”

This sponsorship forms part of CluneTech Cares, CluneTech’s award-winning corporate social responsibility programme. Founded in 2007, the programme supports charities and causes worldwide and is driven by employee involvement. With a strong local impact in Kilkenny and the communities where CluneTech operates, this sponsorship brings the new centre and expanded cancer support services one step closer to reality.

CluneTech Strengthens Its Commitment to FAST Heroes 112 in Varna

Thursday, 5 June 2025 – Varna, Bulgaria

‍

CluneTech is proud to announce the continued success and growth of the award-winning educational initiative FAST Heroes 112, which has now expanded city-wide in Varna, Bulgaria. Endorsed by the World Stroke Organization and supported by CluneTech since 2022, the program currently reaches 26 kindergartens and more than 2,100 children, delivering life-saving health education to families across the region.

‍

What began as a pilot in just one school has grown into a vital community initiative, turning health education into a celebration and raising essential stroke awareness among nearly 13,000 people in the Varna municipality.

‍

In partnership with the Varna Municipality and the Heart to Heart Foundation Bulgaria, we remain committed to expanding the program’s impact even further.

‍

About FAST Heroes 112

‍

FAST Heroes 112 is an award-winning educational program, endorsed by the World Stroke Organization. It aims to raise awareness of stroke symptoms and emphasizes the importance of immediate action when these signs appear. The program harnesses children’s natural enthusiasm for learning and sharing to spread life-saving knowledge not only in kindergartens and primary schools but also within families at home.

Children aged 6 to 11 learn how to identify stroke symptoms through engaging, adventure-based lessons, and then share that knowledge with their families. On average, each child passes this information on to six adults, amplifying the program’s impact beyond the classroom walls.

‍

‍

‍

Why stroke prevention matters

‍

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in Bulgaria and worldwide, and tragically, one of the main reasons children lose their grandparents. Many stroke patients miss out on life-saving treatment because they don’t recognize symptoms early enough and arrive at the hospital too late. However, if stroke victims receive swift and effective acute care, survival rates improve dramatically.

This is why increasing awareness of stroke symptoms and empowering people to seek emergency care immediately is crucial. FAST Heroes 112 contributes to building this awareness, helping families respond quickly when it matters most.

Varna, home to our largest Bulgarian office, is also one of the cities with the highest stroke rates in the country — making this partnership especially meaningful.

‍

Looking ahead to expand our reach

‍

This fall, FAST Heroes 112 will continue its vital work by reaching children and families in all primary and elementary schools across Varna. Stay tuned for updates on our ongoing journey to make Varna safer — one child, one family, and one community at a time.

CluneTech Cares Third Quarter Recap 2026

Our CSR Programme - CluneTech Cares, is a fantastic representation of what we are - a team of truly caring individuals giving our best to support and add value, not only to our customers, but also to the communities in which we operate. CluneTech Cares is employee-led and has three key pillars: Wellness, Culture & Community, and Sustainability. It has been a busy quarter so make sure to check out some of our latest activities below!
‍

‍

‍

CluneTech Kilkenny Stars: The New Season Gets Underway

The new season got underway for the CluneTech Kilkenny Stars, as the ladies’ team took to the court in the Domino’s Women’s Division One National Basketball League!

The team tipped off their season with a home game at O’Loughlin Gaels in front of a fantastic crowd. It was a closely fought opening game, with plenty of positives to take into the season ahead. 💪

There was also plenty to celebrate off the court! Five players from the club were selected for Irish squads across the U16 to U18 levels, including three members of the CluneTech Kilkenny Stars ladies’ squad. A fantastic achievement and a proud moment for the club! 🇮🇪

As proud supporters of the Kilkenny Stars, we’re delighted to be part of their journey as they continue to grow the game, inspire the next generation of players and raise the profile of women’s basketball in Kilkenny.

We look forward to following the team throughout the season and wish them the very best for the games ahead!

Another Donation of Plastic Caps and Nearly Half a Tonne of Plastic Donated So Far

This September, we delivered another 9 kg of plastic caps, collected by our colleagues in the Varna office, to the I Believe and Help Autumn Collection Event in Varna, Bulgaria.

I Believe and Help is a local recycling and donation campaign with three key goals: reducing plastic waste and promoting recycling, educating children and communities about environmental and social responsibility, and raising funds for vital medical equipment.

Their impact so far includes more than 25 pieces of donated medical equipment, 2 neonatal ambulances, 3 mobile blood donation vehicles, and over 1.5 billion BGN raised for meaningful causes. Since 2015, CluneTech has donated almost half a tonne of plastic caps, a meaningful contribution to our local community and a reflection of our ESG commitment.

Inside Na Cait Óga: Developing the Next Generation of Kilkenny Hurlers

As the Na Cait Óga season came to a close, we visited Nowlan Park to go behind the scenes to learn more about the work that goes into developing the next generation of Kilkenny hurlers.

We caught up with Athletic Development Lead Nathen Culleton and Coaching Officer Patrick O'Flynn to hear about the academy’s approach to player development and the dedication it takes to help young players grow both on and off the pitch.

As main sponsor for the past three years, CluneTech is proud to support Na Cait Óga and the journey of these young players.

We wish all the players continued success and look forward to seeing what the next generation of Kilkenny talent achieves in the years ahead!

Four Years as Bulgaria's Best Employer in Fintech: Here's What Makes the Difference

This September, CluneTech had its strongest showing yet at the Career Show Awards in Bulgaria, taking home five awards across employer and workplace categories.

We received Gold in all five categories we entered: Best Employer in Fintech, CSR Strategy, Employee Benefits Strategy, Young Parents Support Programme and Employee Engagement Events.

Winning Best Employer in Fintech for the fourth year in a row gave us a chance to look beyond the accolade and ask what has helped us build a workplace where people can develop, contribute and build long-term careers. Here's what sits behind it.

A strong workplace starts with listening. Throughout the employee journey, we collect feedback through a range of channels, including our annual Pulse Survey, the Great Place to Work Trust Index, annual global focus groups and dedicated feedback forms. We use what we learn to identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to our leadership team on our working environment, benefits and people practices. This keeps the employee experience connected to what our people actually need, and gives them a direct way to influence their workplace.

Recognition is a big part of our culture, from company-wide programmes like the #OneTeam Awards and Employee of the Year Awards to monthly appreciation initiatives that make it easy for colleagues to recognise each other. Our long-service benefits mark important career milestones with additional annual leave, financial awards and opportunities to celebrate with teams.

Work is an important part of life, but it is not all of life. We offer remote and hybrid working, flexible start and finish times, and the option to work weekly hours across four and a half days. In Bulgaria, where the Career Show contest took place, 88% of our employees work remotely or in a hybrid model.

We also offer additional annual leave for long-term employees and a quarterly Life-Work Day, a half paid day that everyone can use for personal commitments, regardless of length of service. These benefits are designed to provide practical flexibility that genuinely supports people.

The fintech industry is constantly evolving, and we believe our people should have the opportunity to evolve with it. Our WeLearn platform offers more than 750 learning opportunities, from general professional development to role-specific training.

We also invest in specialised learning. Programmes such as People Manager's Training and the Fintua Tax Academy help colleagues build leadership and specialist expertise, and employees can pursue professional certifications aligned with their individual development plans.

Growth also means progressing within the company. More than 95% of our team managers were promoted into their roles from within, giving employees real opportunities to grow while helping us develop our future leaders from within.

People need different kinds of support at different moments in their lives. Our additional paid leave provisions cover important life events including marriage, separation or divorce, pregnancy loss, fertility treatment and bereavement.

EmpowerHer, our women's support programme, supports women through different stages of life and career. It brings together policies, benefits, education and practical support, from menstrual care and support after maternity leave to career development and menopause initiatives.

For us, inclusion is not simply about having policies in place. It is about creating an environment where people feel respected and treated fairly. In 2025, 95% of employees said they are treated fairly regardless of their sexual orientation, race, gender or age.

Our workplace culture extends beyond the office. Every employee receives a company-funded volunteering day to support a cause that matters to them. In 2025, volunteering day usage increased by 206% compared with 2024, with colleagues contributing more than 850 hours of voluntary work. Across the year, our teams in Bulgaria took part in 37 charitable and volunteering initiatives.

From blood donation campaigns and environmental activities to projects supporting children and local communities, our colleagues keep turning their time and skills into positive action.

One of the clearest indicators of workplace culture is what happens over time. Average employee tenure in Bulgaria in 2025 was more than 7.5 years, and almost 60% of our employees have been with CluneTech for more than five years. In 2026, 11 colleagues celebrated their 25th anniversary with the company, a milestone that shows the long-term careers people can build here.

There is no single initiative behind the award. It is the combination of listening to our people and acting on their feedback, investing in learning and career development, creating flexibility that supports real life, recognising contribution, supporting different life stages, and giving employees opportunities to make a difference in their communities.

For someone considering their next career move, these things shape what everyday working life actually looks like. At CluneTech, we want people to build meaningful, long-term careers with the flexibility and support to make room for life outside work.

Friday, 16 October 2026. Kilkenny headquartered software technology group, CluneTech, has been named Employer of the Year at the 2026 HR Leadership & Management Awards, marking a major achievement for the company and its people.

CluneTech was also recognised with the Excellence in Workplace Culture Award, securing two major honours for the company on the night.

The HR Leadership & Management Awards celebrate excellence across the HR profession in Ireland, recognising organisations and teams that are leading the way in shaping exceptional workplaces, strengthening employee experience and driving positive change across their businesses.

Together, the two awards recognise an employee experience that has continued to evolve in response to what people need from their workplace.

Over the years, CluneTech has introduced a range of benefits designed to support employees in ways that reflect their lives both inside and outside of work. These include Lifework Days, flexible and hybrid working, Meeting Free Fridays and paid Volunteer Days.

The company has also introduced initiatives such as the EmpowerHer Programme, as well as enhanced leave policies covering compassionate leave, pregnancy loss, fertility treatment and, more recently, pet bereavement leave.

These initiatives, alongside an ongoing focus on listening to employee feedback and adapting the way people work, have become an important part of life at CluneTech. “We are incredibly proud to be recognised as Employer of the Year and to receive the Excellence in Workplace Culture Award at this year’s HR Leadership & Management Awards. This is a real source of pride for us and reflects the strength of the culture we have created here at CluneTech.

What makes this recognition particularly special is that our culture is built by our people. Adding to this, Michelle Gaffney, Head of Group HR, said:

“To see CluneTech recognised in both of these categories is incredibly rewarding. These awards reflect the care and focus we continue to place on the employee experience, from listening to our people and responding to their needs, to creating opportunities for them to grow, develop and build meaningful careers with us. I’m very proud of the work of our HR and leadership teams, whose commitment continues to shape that experience and ensure we keep evolving as an employer. It is wonderful to see that work acknowledged through these awards.”

There is a real sense of connection across the business, and that comes through in how we work together and support one another. It is incredibly special to see that culture recognised through both Employer of the Year and Excellence in Workplace Culture.”

Our CSR Programme - CluneTech Cares, is a fantastic representation of what we are - a team of truly caring individuals giving our best to support and add value, not only to our customers, but also to the communities in which we operate. ‍

CluneTech Supports the I Want a Baby Foundation, Further Assisting Those Experiencing Infertility

‍

CluneTech’s award winning employee wellbeing programme offers a range of supports and initiatives including corporate health insurance, a Global Employee Assistance Programme, Life Work Days and much more, ensuring that health and wellbeing of our people is always a priority. In recent years, we expanded our offering to include fertility support and paid leaves for both IVF / pregnancy support and miscarriage / pregnancy loss, helping our people and / or their partners through all stages of their fertility journey.

‍

With this in mind, we are honoured to announce that this summer, CluneTech has made its first donation towards the I Want a Baby Foundation in Bulgaria. This donation will directly assist the facilitation of psychological support groups for those experiencing infertility in Bulgaria’s sea capital Varna, where the large majority of our Bulgarian workforce is based.

‍

The I Want a Baby Foundation launched its psychological programme in 2007. The programme is the first of its kind as it has been thoughtfully crafted to run in tandem with the medical procedures a couple is going through.

‍

Following the donation, Katya Simeonova, who is the psychologist conducting the support groups in Varna, shared:

“When families start their infertility path, we always notice a feeling of social isolation. Their families and friends usually have children, and this is something that upsets them very much. They start distancing themselves emotionally. They usually don’t have someone to share the things they are going through and at some point, they start feeling isolated. The work in such groups is very precious to them as it gives women with infertility a chance to meet people with similar problems, to talk things through, each one of them to share the challenges they have been through. They get great feedback and in addition, they start getting closer to each other. They keep nurturing the friendships they create throughout our support groups even after the end of the program. I’m confident to say that group therapy is working really well.”

‍

The donation was made following an employee's suggestion

‍

At the beginning of 2023, in addition to the many amazing initiatives we already support, we opened our global CSR request form, where our employees from all over the world have the opportunity to submit requests highlighting which charities and causes they would like to see us support. This year saw the highest number of requests to date, with our employees eager to see us support the charities and causes closest to their hearts.

Following an open vote on our internal communications platform Workvivo, the I Want a Baby Foundation which was put forward by Iglika Raeva, was chosen as the next CluneTech Cares beneficiary.

‍

Following her nomination, Iglika Raeva from our Veliko Tarnovo office shared:

“The reason I want to support 'I Want a Baby' is because it is a cause very close to my heart. The volunteers there give their time and endless effort to support the families that are listed in the program. They support them not only financially, but also mentally, and emotionally and become their second family. All the parents of the babies born with the help of the foundation are also volunteers and they give back time and effort invested by others previously for them. I see great value in their cause as it brings happiness to people that have wanted this for years.”

‍

‍

About the I Want a Baby Foundation

The I Want a Baby Foundation coordinates reproduction, fertility treatment and psychological support programmes for childless couples.

The foundation’s efforts led to the creation of Bulgaria’s National IVF Fund and there are now IVF Funds in over 45 municipalities in the country. These funds sponsor up to four IVF procedures per couple. In addition to the foundation’s psychological support programme, the I Want a Baby Foundation also operates a genetic material donor programme for all couples who, after multiple unsuccessful procedures, are unable to conceive and require a donor.

In 2023 the organization celebrates its 16th birthday. In those sixteen years they have welcomed 3,500 babies in Varna and 20,000 babies in other locations, which would easily fill a whole town!

‍

About CluneTech Cares

CluneTech’s CSR programme was established in September 2007 in response to a tragic flooding disaster in Tsar Kaloyan, Bulgaria. Deeply saddened by the news, our Bulgarian employees decided to help and within 48 hours, they had rallied together and organised 3.5 tonnes of food and 12,000 litres of water for the village. After this event, we formalised our CSR activity to give it a global reach, ensuring to support each of the communities in which we operate and giving back to our local communities.

The amazing thing about our CSR Programme is that it’s created by our people, for our people. Each year employees are given the opportunity to request which charities we support and the programme’s global reach results in us having appositive impact in each of the communities we operate in.

As part of CluneTech Cares, in 2020 we introduced our Volunteer Day which empowers our people to give back within their local communities during working time, ensuring that even our smaller teams can get behind the charities and causes closest to their hearts.

In 2022, we donated over €75,000 and supported over 55 charities, causes and fundraisers.

5 Years at TransferMate - Interview with Rose O’Kane

At CluneTech, we have an extensive Milestone Recognition Program that rewards employees that choose to build a long and successful career with us. As part of this programme, we love celebrating and sharing the stories of those reaching major milestones with the company. This month we caught up with TransferMate's Rose O’Kane, PMO Lead who has been on our team for the last 5 years.

‍

What is your favorite thing about working in CluneTech / TransferMate?

The best part about working in CluneTech and TransferMate is the people. Everyone is self-disciplined and motivated towards the growth of the company. This is very evident and makes it a pleasure to work with everyone and to achieve business requirements.

‍

What has been your biggest achievement or highlight since joining CluneTech / TransferMate?

Being nominated for employee of the year early on and being a part of consistent successful ISO 27001 accreditation audits across the group.

‍

What is the biggest change that you have witnessed in your time here?

The biggest change I have witnessed is the massive growth of TransferMate from a small start-up in its first year when I joined, to the world’s leading B2B global payments infrastructure as-a-service platform.

‍

What is the greatest challenge that you have faced in your time here and how did you overcome it?

My greatest challenge that I faced when I first joined the InfoSec team was the staggering pace and forensic level of detail required to support the rapid growth of a soon to be global payments infrastructure service. The rate of change continues to accelerate. I overcame it by developing scalable training runbooks, having a daily disciplined must do list and being very organized.

‍

What has been your favorite task or project to work on?

Currently I am enjoying scaling the recertification's program across the group of companies within CluneTech. These quarterly audits are carried out as part of a wider process to ensure we retain ISO 27001 and SOC2 certification. This accreditation supports each business in the group to demonstrate cybersecurity, privacy, and trust to prospective and current customers and within the international payments industry, which in turn helps towards business expansion.

Do you have advice for someone who is just starting their career in CluneTech / TransferMate?

My advice would be to become very organized, plan all activities in advance for compliance and BAU (Business As Usual) tasks and develop training runbooks so that you can onboard your team quickly to support business scaling and growth.

With one of the key pillars of our CSR Programme CluneTech Cares being sustainability, we couldn’t forget all of our recent CSR events under the #CluneTechGoesGreen umbrella which we organized for our staff during the month of April.

Every year, in celebration of World Earth Day, CluneTech Goes Green for the month of April to raise awareness about the environment and learn more about what we can do for our planet across our day to day lives.

During the month of April #CluneTechGoesGreen:

Thanks to our team's support and participation throughout the month, CluneTech donated over €100 to our dedicated sustainability charity, Leave No Trace Ireland which will go towards their work sustaining a healthy and vibrant outdoor environment for everyone. May’s CSR Spotlight: World MS Day

In honour of World MS Day, CluneTech Cares dedicated May's CSR spotlight to a number of incredibly deserving multiple sclerosis support charities. The charities supported included Moga Sam, MS Ireland and MS Society UK.

The MS – Moga sam organization in Bulgaria was founded by Bilyana Savova. At the age of 40, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Bilyana started the organization in 2013 to support people with multiple sclerosis by helping them deal with their diagnosis both mentally and physically, as well as guiding them towards healthy lifestyle changes that can improve a range of MS symptoms.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland (MS Ireland) is the only national organisation providing information, support, and advocacy services to the MS community. Their services include Regional Community Worker programmes for one-to-one support, physiotherapy, symptom management courses, newly diagnosed sessions, and the MS Information Line, one of the first services used in the time leading up to or following a diagnosis.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society is the UK's largest charity for people affected by multiple sclerosis. The organisation funds research, campaigns for social and political change and provides services that help people with multiple sclerosis and their families. It also compiles the only report of its kind on prevalence and living situations for people with MS across the UK

On the 30th of May, a walk / run was organised both remotely and in person for those who wanted to take part with their teammates in aid of this amazing cause. Following our team’s participation throughout the month of May, CluneTech donated €100 to each of our dedicated MS support charities. This donation will go towards the hugely important services made available to people affected by MS and their families. Thank you to everyone who got involved and for the support you’ve shown to our incredible charities during the month of May.

June's CSR Spotlight: Pride Month

This June, we dedicated our CSR Spotlight to Pride Month in support and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. All donations go towards several incredibly deserving LGBT+ support organisations and charities.

June is Pride Month, when the world’s LGBT communities come together and celebrate the freedom to be themselves. Pride gatherings are rooted in the arduous history of minority groups who have struggled for decades to overcome prejudice and be accepted for who they are.

The original organizers chose this month to pay homage to the Stonewall uprising in June 1969 in New York City, which helped spark the modern gay rights movement.

During the month of June, not only did our teams get involved in our monthly walk / run in support of the LGBTQ+ community, but they also took part in a number of fundraising Pride Month activities including CluneTech’s ‘Wear Your Rainbow Day’ and our annual Pride themed photography competition where we asked our teams what pride means to them.

Thanks to our team's participation throughout the month, CluneTech has made a monetary donation in support of our LGBTQ+ organisations and charities. Well done to all of our amazing colleagues for their participation this month.

Business Run 2023

For the third year in a row, we participated in Bulgaria’s biggest corporate run which took place in the Bulyard shipping factory in Varna, Bulgaria. On June 12th two CluneTech teams took part in Business Run Varna ranking #5 out of 76 teams on the day and #2 in the women's ranking. Not only was the Business Run a really great team building event, but it’s also a great way to give back to charity as 30% of the registration fees from the event was also donated to Karin Dom's new therapeutical center in Varna.

Set in the beautiful city of Varna, Karin Dom's new building opened its doors in September 2022, giving children with special needs from the Northeast of Bulgaria access to vital therapy that will help them to grow in strength and confidence. Well done to both teams on a fantastic result and for your time supporting this great cause.

Garden Swing for the Veliko Tarnovo’s Daycare Center for Children with Disabilities

Following our 2021 gardening therapy project, CluneTech and our Veliko Tarnovo team made another meaningful contribution to the local Daycare Center for children with disabilities. We donated a garden swing, allowing the young people in the center to spend more quality time outdoors which can help them reduce anxiety, increase their attention span, and improve their overall physical and mental wellbeing.

Veliko Tarnovo’s Center 'Rainbow' provides a set of services to promote children’s development, ensure comprehensive care for them during the day, meet their learning needs, provide motor and speech therapy, and provide quality time outdoors with their friends and family.

'I Believe and Help' Plastic Caps Recycling Campaign

Following the ongoing support of our team in Bulgaria, CluneTech donated 21kgs of plastic caps for the latest edition of the 'I believe and help' initiative in Varna, which took place on 29th April.

'I believe and help' is a well-known Bulgarian initiative that is run biannually – once in the spring, and once in the autumn. It promotes plastic caps collection and recycling as a way to gather funds for buying vital medical equipment for children’s hospitals while also supporting the planet and recycling tons of plastic each year.

In addition to the plastic caps collection, this year the organizers promoted their first penny fundraiser campaign and a local fundraising bazaar, ending with an amazing record of 31 tons of plastic caps collected, equal to 24 800 BGN.

The latest goal of the 'I believe and help' organization is the collection of 500 000 BGN which will be used for buying:

• The first in Bulgaria mobile blood donation vehicle

• The second in the Southeast of Bulgaria Neonatal ambulance

• Lifesaving medical equipment for the pediatric surgical ward in St. Anna’s Hospital in Varna

Career Counseling Program

Our career counselling program is our way to show how CluneTech cares about the youth and their future career development. For a fifth year in a row, CluneTech’s career counselling program took place in Varna High School of Commerce during the academic year 2022-2023.

In this year’s edition of our career counseling program, managers from various businesses from across our group met the young students training them for real life job interviews and developing specific skills which can help them get the best out of the career exploration, job search and job application processes.

At the end of the academic year, all participants had their professional LinkedIn headshot done by our in-house photographer and the best ones received a job recommendation letter from their mentor.  Congratulations to all of our participants from Varna High School of Commerce and our Career Counseling Program mentors on this incredible initiative.

The First Ever Open CSR Employee Vote in Bulgaria

CluneTech Cares is led by our employees, for our employees. At the beginning of 2023, we opened our global CSR request form. We received exactly 50 requests from our teams with fundraising requests for charities and causes they hold dearest, in addition to the many amazing initiatives we already support.

This year in Bulgaria, we decided to follow our employee feedback and let our people decide the next initiative supported by CluneTech Cares.

Following our team’s feedback, the 'I Want a Baby' organization was chosen as our next beneficiary. The 'I Want a Baby' organization coordinates reproduction, fertility treatment and psychological support programs for childless couples.

Following her nomination, Iglika Raeva from our Veliko Tarnovo office shared:

‍

‍

“The reason I want to support 'I Want a Baby' is because it is a cause very close to my heart. The volunteers there give their time and endless effort to support the families that are listed in the program. They support them not only financially, but also mentally, and emotionally and become their second family. All the parents of the babies born with the help of the foundation are also volunteers and they give back time and effort invested by others previously for them. I see great value in their cause, to have more babies, increased population, happiness for people that have wanted this for years.”

Volunteering at CluneTech

Introduced in 2021, our CSR Volunteer Day empowers each employee to give back to the charities and causes closest to them. Since the inception of our Volunteer Day, over 70 CluneTech employees have contributed to causes which they find meaningful, and this number keeps growing.

The Social Teahouse Renovation

Just a week before Easter, over ten CluneTech volunteers helped with the renovation of the Social Teahouse in Varna. Their immense support came in addition to a small financial donation that CluneTech made to give a push to the organization’s renovation project.

The Social Teahouse is a tea and coffee shop, a venue for many events and a favorite place for the residents and the guests of the city of Varna. Most importantly, it is a social enterprise set up to support young people from difficult backgrounds and help them gain employment by giving them a chance to start their first job in the organization.

In May 2023, Chris Henry from our Veliko Tarnovo office spent his Volunteer Day working on the restoration of one of Bulgaria’s most ancient churches in the Kereka village near Dryanovo, Bulgaria called “Mary’s Holy Annunciation”. A volunteering group led by Hristo Totsev worked on restoring the retaining wall of the nearly 200-year-old building, which was also used as a school for the children of the residents of the village.

20 Years at CluneTech- Interview with Diana Demireva

What is your favorite thing about working at CluneTech?

It may sound cliché, but undoubtedly, the most valuable asset of the company are the people.

Over the years, I have encountered many interesting, capable people, who contribute to the development and values of CluneTech. The company’s culture is something unique for each organization and I reckon that the spirit, cooperation, and respect that exists within ours is one of the things that makes CluneTech a preferred and successful employer.

When I reached 20 years with the company, besides the gifts and surprises from my wonderful colleagues in the HR department, I received a beautiful bouquet of roses from a group of colleagues with whom I have worked with throughout the years.

Another thing that impresses me is the entrepreneurial spirit and continuous pursuit of innovation that I have observed throughout the years in the company, starting from CluneTech’s owner, Terry Clune.

What has been your biggest achievement or highlight since joining CluneTech?

I am not able to define only one thing, but one of my most important achievements has been all the training courses that were organized during the years. Successful inductions and all the activities surrounding training platforms such as Udemy, LinkedIn Learning and others, which our employees have been using over the years is something we can be proud of. Our educational program for specialists in various businesses – Taxback Pro – introduced in2012 is also a project that we are very proud of.

What is the biggest change that you have witnessed in your time here?

When I started working with the company, it consisted of one business and had 150 employees in Bulgaria. Within one year of joining CluneTech, the number of employees doubled.

Now after 20 years, CluneTech is expanding businesses in many fields, and the number of employees in Bulgaria is over 1000. That is a significant change.

What is the greatest challenge that you have faced in your time here and how did you overcome it?

One of the major challenges that comes to my mind is one of the large-scale events in 2016 when I successfully organized training sessions for over 120 employees on different topics from an international training company. All the activities related to this event had to be coordinated and organized precisely, while also being carried out in parallel with other projects I was working on. A challenge can only be overcome by mobilizing yourself and giving your best effort.

What has been your favourite task or project to work on?

I have learned a lot from cases related to labor legislation, but there are two projects that I am working on with great enthusiasm.

One is the Taxback Pro program for specialists, and the other is the #One Team Awards, where we recognize employees who have been nominated by their colleagues for excellence.

Do you have advice for someone who is just starting their career in CluneTech?

Be prepared to learn every day, be patient, work with enthusiasm, don’t be afraid to accept challenges and pursue your goals. I wish them success, to have fun, and to feel good at CluneTech.
